I locked the diner @ midnight on the last day of the month - like I've done on numerous occasions in the past, maxman. The previous diner still stands and you can still peek through the window. You just can't walk through the front door and sit at the counter.
Maybe the exercise to the new diner will do your heart some good.

Good morning diners. Janie, coffee and toast please. Got our first appreciable snow last night. Actually enough to snow blow. Sure is pretty outside. I love it when freshly fallen snow is on every tree branch to be seen. Just gorgeous. Starting to give up on the hope that the forum gets updated. We've been down to a small handful of people for weeks now. So disappointing. Had a great Thanksgiving weekend with the family. Got the house decorated for Christmas on Friday and a good weekend of college football to watch. Hope everyone is doing well.

Had a fun weekend. My brother in law and I spent the day visiting four layouts as part of Tour De Chooch, which is an organized group of layout owners who hold an open house. It's large enough that some are held Saturday, some Sunday, always the weekend after Thanksgiving. It's been ongoing for thirty years, many with the original layouts and always some new ones. The layouts are in eastern MA and southern NH. You can go to the web site for info. Then Sunday I spent most of the day at a friends layout who was on the Tour. Very good attendance for him, because he was on the NH tv channel magazine show Wednesday night.
A sign of my aging, I've recently started wearing hearing aids. I'm on week two of a two week trial to see if they would work for me. I can definitely say yes. It's not the I have severe loss, but with significant enough high frequency loss I am missing a lot if conversation and tv audio. They definitely help. I often forget I have them in, almost took a shower last night with them still in. After the trial with the "loaner testers" they will order a pair for me.
Snow coming here Thursday in MetroWest Boston, so looking forward to a full day at the layout.

I don't know what type of hearing aids you can get for $25. Maybe one of those old fashioned curved horn things?
But I agree that the price of them is outrageous. Mine cost $5000, about $2000 more than the first new car I ever purchased. And I really don't like them.
If I'm listening to the car radio or watching tv by myself I can really tell the difference. But a group setting is a different story. Was recently at a table at a wedding. Eight of us at a round table. Had a hard time understanding the people either side of me. Third to my left was a man, and I understood everything he said. Third to my right was a woman with a high screechy voice. I can't count her because every time she spoke everyone in the place heard her.
In my case, at least, it seems to be a voice pitch issue. Men mostly okay, women not so much. And I'm almost convinced that most women mumble. But I suppose I'm not allowed that opinion.
Maxman, that sounds like high frequency loss. Maybe they need to be reprogrammed?
They have been, several times. I believe that the issue is more positionable than anything else. I go to the audiologist every couple months, and I can hear her clearly. But she sits directly in front of me.
And when I'm wearing the darn things I can also clearly hear all the extraneous sounds. But in any group environment, forget about it.
The only good thing I can say about them is that when I'm wearing them and say "what? what?" to the boss, she can't say "you need to get your hearing checked".
Good morning. Brunhilda, cream cheese danish and a big chocolate mocha please. In the midst of a winter storm right now (according to the warning) but all we really have is a bunch of wind. We got some snow last night when it started, but not much. We are right in the edge of the area the warning applies to so it kind of doesn't surprise me. Still, my oldest was planning on coming home from university today and would have to drive through the thick of it. Looking more and more like she won't be coming home until Friday.

Forgot to mention. Get yourself one of those soft, little kid, toothbrushes. Every morning brush off the accumulated ear "stuff" that has hardened on the tip of the hearing aid. Otherwise the darn things plug up quickly.

I'm afraid, Mike, that you're still not selling me on this snow business, but I do hope your daughter gets home safe and sound. I do understand your thoughts on the Forum, but keep telling myself that is still early days! Well, I am supposed to be an optimist. Besides the Forum still has valid helpful information as recently seen with Simon's wheel repair on his newly acquired brass locomotive
Working on aircraft for most of my adult life, my hearing is quite shot, though I do notice that my hearing loss often depends on which side Her-in-doors is on.

I was hoping that I had taken some interesting photos while visiting our daughter, though looking at others holiday snaps can be somewhat boring .

Bear, I'm used to not being able to sell people on how nice the snow is. It's okay. I still love it. No, I don't want it all year long, but I do want it for 1/4 of the year.
My daughter made it home safe and sound. Clear sailing for 2/3 of her trip. The last stretch was a bit more treacherous, but nothing she shouldn't have been able to handle. She called me while driving at one point to talk to someone to help calm her nerves. She was fine, but gets herself worked up sometimes.
Heating guys about to show up to do a little work on our boiler, so I best be going. Have a great day guys!

Flo, a double Gunpowder Gin and tonic to calm my tight back muscles.
Maxman, before wearing my hair real short it used to be a bit over my ears and that caused a lot of wax issues (I.e. sweat). Now with essentially a buzz cut much less, but I still had to go in to have them clean one of them. I will sit with them next week when I order my "real" ones (non trial) To get a cleaning kit. Also, I have an app that lets me adjust volume and adjust background noise. It doesn't help much with the noise but it helps. It's not a perfect solution but they do help me a lot to hear conversation, tv dialog and music on my stereo. AND, on a model railroading note, my layout has three PSX circuit breakers that I installed the pziedo buzzers. I haven't heard them in the last 4-5 years. The day I got my "loaners" I went to the layout and had a short and heard it loud and clear.
The cleaning brush I got from the audiologist had just one row of bristles, and I had to be pretty precise to use it. It was pretty small. The baby toothbrush worked a lot better.
Besides, I had the original on the night stand. We had company coming and the boss went on a cleaning rampage. I think the original is in a vacuum bag now.

Good morning. Chloe, coffee and a cinnamon muffin please. Had a nice Christmas with my family this weekend. Minimal drama, so that was good. My nephew's significant other seemed very nice and my daughter's boyfriend was also well liked. It's hard to get essentially seven households together every year. Bear, I hope you don't mind but I see you had the latest picture of the station marked public so I downloaded a copy to use as desktop wallpaper on my computer. Sure is a fine looking building.

Hi folks. We got another snowfall this weekend - another heavy 6 inches. It was our annual open-door event at our local club yesterday, but the snow did not discourage our visitors : 40 guests showed up. Probably the most successful event ever.
