CNCharlie the problem with the basement water is a window that is below grade. The metal guard holding back the soil is too low so we can't build up the earth to change the slope.

I saw this big dog just down from Kroll's Diner in Mandan North Dakota while visiting my son on Holiday.
Dakota Missouri Valley & Western operating mainly around Bismarck. Apparently they must have purchased this locomotive from the Canadians and painted the DMVW patch on.
I found two of the Real McCoys hiding between two buildings not too far away the same day.

Ah, yes, the LION knows of these well. I love thast bottom one since the grey and Orange carries shades of the old LIRR colors.
The DMVW runs covered coal hoppers. They carry lignite coal and fthe NIMBYS would complain of coal dust if they were not kept covered. Their head quarters is not far fome where you took these pictures. I have gone in there to hob nob with them. The told me about a train of empty hoppers returning to the noprth inabout an hour, so I stuck around to watch.

About a year ago I started using canned beans when I make chili. I guess I can do the same in Red Beans & Rice.

Ah yes, This is the lower level of the BMT City Hall station. I do not know if it was ever open to the public, but it will not fit today's 600' trains. I have always thought that it should be put back into service, but alas, the platforms cannot be lengthened. Maybe 8 car (W) trains can tern here.

Been swamped lately with the usual work and family stuff. My oldest graduates high school at the end of the month. Luckily, she wants a dessert themed party and my wife has basically ordered everything, so I don't have to cook a darned thing! I just show up, put things where told and keep the water and lemonade stocked up. I never dreamed I'd get off so easily.
Unfortunately, the only vacation train picture I have is of the Thunder Mountain Railroad at Disney World from the 1980's, in a box somewhere in the basement. I won't be much help this month, but love looking at what you guys have for train pics.

I think just because he has a leaky window he thinks he can park wherever he wants so I took his spot.

I've mentioned to you before that in New Orleans, the weather people were the same as yours. Every day, they seemed to make it sound like the weather was the most extreme it had ever been. Every hurricane was the 'big one' and we were all in danger if we didn't listen to their channel constantly!
Charlie, I hope your basement has dried out by now. Is any wallboard or furniture damaged?
Lion, my wife's father grew up in North Dakota, and he told us about the water table there. When he died, he was cremated, and my wife and I took his urn to the ND church cemetery for burial. When we got there, the cemetery caretaker was there, but he had hurt his back. Therefore, with a posthole digger, I dug the grave. He said he wanted it deep, but after about a foot, water started seeping into the hole. I got it about two feet deep and told the guy I wasn't digging in the water anymore. It was her father's wishes to be buried back in his home state, even though he had left there after high school. My one and only experience digging a grave.
Ed, we got our first oriole on April 30, so we beat you by a day. Ours return, but not nearly as much on a calendar date like yours.

When I make Red Beans and Rice, I use dry beans. However, I use the New Orleans method. The stuff is all put in a pot in the morning, and it cooks all day. By about three or four in the afternoon, the New Orleans beans are all smashed on the sides of the pot and cooked for several more hours. By the time it's done, it's more of a soup than individual beans.

Not every weather occurance can be "the big one", and you can only cry wolf so many times. Then people stop taking weather seriously. When the bad one does come, we don't know what to believe.
I have lived in Florida 97% of my life, but still it seems every year the weather reports get more over-the-top.
I had a customer tell me that every tree in Florida is less than 15 years old because hurricanes keep killing them all. I told him the Mohagany trees right in front of our store were all 31 years old.
He did not believe me.

That picture was taken of a tourist line that I visited when near Las Vegas. Those are the actual, but not accurate, colors of the locomotive.
The train was not running that day, but instead they were renting two-passenger bicycles that ran on the rails. We rented one and saw some amazing terrain that was otherwise not accessible.

Your red beans and rice looks really good. Ol' New Orleans Judy cooks a mean red beans and rice, It's delicious. She soaks her red beans for two days and I don't know what else she does.
I tried these railroad beans once just because they had Great Northern on them Prepared them for a side while cooking cheese burgers over Kingsford outside. They weren't too bad but prefer the Great Northern trains more

You too! I may be the wrong person to ask as I'm quite indecisive and had the same problem deciding on colors for the bridges. Perhaps one of my defects of character from my marine sergeant Stepdad pounding perfectionism in my head for so many years
I know the most common railroad colors through the years has been black, silver, grays, brown, rust, and they have a new modern light gray/green because they're painted with epoxy and it's a very durable paint. There's also this hybrid type of steel that surface rusts and then it stops.
1) The Warren through truss is going to be medium gray.
2) The triple Warren pony truss is going to be traditional black.
3) The curved girder bridge is going to be DMIR brown like in Duluth.
3 1/2) The ore tipple the same.
4) The through Gator truss is going to be silver.
5) The double Viaduct stones are already treated and complete.
6) The culvert bridge stones are painted and complete as well.
7) The timber trestle is going to be shades of creosote and wood tones, lighter colors sprayed from the top to mimic sun fading.
8) The multi-pier girder bridge is going to be charcoal smoke.
9-10) And the two mining run bridges are going to be rust.
I don't know if that helps at all but maybe go with your favorite color out of the ones you listed

We know so many people with oceanfront property and have spent many a night with the fires raging while we played guitars till dawn. The firewood washes right up on the beach so you don't have to go far to get it. With the length of Canada's coastline and its tiny population it is pretty easy to get something on the beach.
One of the gals that were here yesterday brought us a box of cookies like these. We suggested she take them home with her when she left but she insisted that we would eat them. The wife said we will not eat those but she left them anyway. Well, they went in the garbage this morning. That's what happens when your wife has a degree in animal nutrition. 230 calories each, I had to look.
Man, I sure feel like getting away for a few days. We have not been away for quite a while and both the wife and I were avid travelers in the past. We have to go to Alberta three times this summer but it isn't quite the same for me as it has to do with dog stuff. The wife isn't up to driving there on her own anymore with her health issues so I am more than happy to drive her. I recently logged about a 1000km on the truck and after driving the New Toyota with the auto-steer and auto cruise it seemed like a lot of work driving the truck, very noticeable difference in the fatigue factor.
You talk about the TV weather forecasters and their overexuberance. I shake my head at these business programs and their stock gurus. If you listen to those guys you will not do well. They are always very late to the party in their suggestions as to how well a company is going to do. We are usually selling by the time they suggest something is a buy. Pretty typical of the crap on the tube though.
The sun is now made an appearance so it is shower and the great outdoors.

Ya, we don't bring anything into the house that is crap either. Before the wife chucked them she pushed them across the counter to me and said with an impish grin, "here have a cookie", I said, "ya, no". There are 4830 calories of nothingness in that box of cookies, good for a pound and a half of weight gain. That is two days of calorie intake for me with no nutritional value.
Only went 7.72km on the walk today. Took a different trail that took us down a 137m elevation change in short order and right back up again. So we came to a spot where the trail went three ways and the dog chose the shortcut, the deadbeat.
First back to the front door as usual.
Long way down.
According to the Garmin, I Burned 610 calories on the walk and 804 on the bike today plus my daily doing nothing burn is about 2500 calories. I have not eaten a thing today yet so I see a huge bowl of hot air popcorn in my future drowned in butter right after the huge steak the wife bought yesterday. Bring it on! We have no booze in the house right now so life isn't quite perfect, but close.

Somehow that GP30 at the Nevada Southern museum got repainted using the wrong grey.
