I can recognize just about every piece there. Gimme a helper, a big alignment drift and some big wrenches and I'll be ready to fire up in about a week!
I just caught the tail-end of the "old way" of factories doing everything "in-house" as the PRR did in the photo above.
Our GE plant had a pattern maker, a full machine shop and gangs of laborers, painters, sweepers and chip pullers. That all ended in the early 1980s when the Wall Street forward thinkers got into the game. Why run a dirty, old factory and settle for a 4-5% return on investment when you can take that money and wheel-and-deal in securities, reinsurance and futures, mergers and acquisitions and pull in 15 or 20% or more ?
Well, of course all that blew up in 2001 and again in 2008. GE couldn't get out of the money game fast enough.

A train arriving at Leamington Spa 2018. Had it been 1908 or earlier, apart from the train would have a steam engine, the scene would be identical. The lamps. The GWR seating etal. Then the sultry looking sky. Magical (to me).

Good morning on Memorial Day in the U.S. My mother called it Decoration Day, and we had to take flowers to the cemetery. I loved watching the veterans fire the 21-gun salute.
Today is a good day to rest and recover. Kids wore me out.
TF, that looks like a nice one night vacation spot. I noticed that someone left you a gift on the kitchen counter -- I hope you enjoyed it.
David, that's a pretty nice photo of you on the balcony of the ship. I wish I could go again. My wife doesn't want to.
Speaking of that, I will be going to Israel and Jordan in a couple of months with my daughters. My wife doesn't want to go, so I will be the lone grandparent on this trip. I'm looking forward to finally seeing one of my bucket list places -- Petra.
Ed, congratulations on the graduation. Looks like you had a good time. Your photo of the locomotive parts reminds me of the Corvette factory in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Taking the tour, you start walking past big bins of parts. The workers start putting it all together, and at the end, they put gas in the Corvette, start it, and drive it away. I was totally in awe of the process.
Kevin, I hope the rest of the construction comes out looking as good as the work you've done so far. Thanks for all the great vacation photos.

Didn't stop me from fishtailing the car around to go back and take a picture of that neat Grader on the way home though.

Our Remembrance Decoration day was quite quiet and enjoyable. I hope yours was, too.

Great pictures Ed. My Memorial Day was a "work" day, but that was pretty easy. I have enjoyed the evening for sure.
I opened a package of terrycloth rags tonight to damp-clean the walls to get all of the residual sanding dust off of them. They seemed a little musty, but I used them anyway.
It was worse than I realized. Now my house has a noticeable musty smell to it. I put the rags in the washer. I hope this smell goes away.
Had to get up and go outside just now to pump some water out of the pond as it was starting to overflow. Yes it us raining hard again and watwr is coming in the window well too. Guess I won't be getting much sleep tonight. The ground is too wet to absorb more water more water. Now the power just went out.
We have had the second wettest spring on record. The wettest since 1897. May rainfall was twice normal.
Power is back, out for only 15 minutes. Wife is mad at me for not buying an emergency light for upstairs, I have one down here in my lair.
Sounds like the Diners south of the border had a good holiday. We do our Remembrance Day here on Nov.11.
Tomorrow, I guess it is that already, we are expecting, rain, what a surprise.
Supose I should have kept the sailboat and just parked it in the driveway. In the 25 years we had it I never did get it to the house. It was on a highway trailer but I never had a vehicle that could pull 7500 lbs. It only went a few hundred feet each year from the crane to the boat yard. We had an old farm tractor to pull boats at the club.
Time to empty pails again,

Good afternoon from sunny and hot Northeast Ohio! Just got the phone call, have to be at the hospital by 6:00 am for the open heart surgery. Will not have access to my phone until my wife gets it to me in the ICU or my room the next day. Will keep you all updated when I can.
By the way Brent and David, sorry to hear about you wives. Had to deal with my wife's ovarian tumor removal right at the beginning of the covid pandemic, she was on the operating table for 6 hours with a lot of problems. Hope all gets better.
