I don't know what types of rolling stock they have but I have a train dispatching simulator with Alaska Railroad on it. They have the following freight trains: Coal, Intermodal (gasp!),Freight, Gravel, Logs, and Oil.

Nick,
I'm pretty sure that coal (in 100T open hoppers) is the ARR's primary commodity.
Check out "http://www.akrr.com/freight/index.html" and see what they say.

Nick--
Here are some web sites that will knock your socks off--
http://www.alaskarails.org
http://www.roundhousehobbies.com
http://www.rr-fallenflags.org
Check out the Alaska Railroad pages on the fallen Flags site. In addition to loco and rolling stock photos, there is a roster of ARR freight equipment as of 1976.

Nick:
Petroleum and minerals top the list, actually. Then comes coal. Visit http://www.tomorrowsrailroads.org/pdf/AK.pdf for details on this. It is a handy download listed on the American Association of Railroad's (www.aar.org) RailFan site (http://www.railfanclub.org/school.html). Click "What's moving in your state"
