They are great for space saving. does give the illusion of going some place.  But like most parts of the hobby, it has its ups and downs.    I am looking to construct one on the long side of the layout to reach a good sized staging yard. might get that this winter.

I think of the strategy similar to hiding the oval track. You want to  minimize the appearance of trains clearly going in loops.  In the same way, a lift bridge thousands of feet long just doesn't exist so why not give it the appearance of something else that blends in the layout.  Double decked truss bridges do exist so you could give the illusion it's static when it's not

Following your sketch maybe on the left side, the upper level track (non functional) turns off on a trestle and vanishes behind a tall industrial building or hill or some other pieces of scenery. On the right side, the lower approach dies off in a tunnel, train shed or overpass with the active tracks overhead.
