How about something like this as an alternative for cutting strips to length?

This is what I use. If I have to make multiple cuts the same length, I create a jig and make fast work of it.

Micro-Mark has this saw on sale for 50 bucks, a $25 savings.

I wanted to revist this thead to share my experience.  I wound up getting both types of saws, the chop saw and the table saw.  Although I haven't started the project that I was thinking about in the first post I have used both saws and don't know how I have done without either for this many years.

There are some things I have cut on each that I could not have done with the other or any other tool that I have.  It could be said that I would not have tackled the projects involved but the saws have improved my modeling ability.

Thanks for the suggestions.
