I presently have a rather large "G" scale all stainless steel track layout and do plan to run a loop of my "O" scale Gargraves stainless steel, 3-rail track through a future town, raised above the G line to look something like the L's or is it EL's of Chicago, mind you I only use stainless steel track outside, as I do use track power, and hate cleaning rails, which you do have to still clean, even with the nickel silver track, been there, done it.

GR featured an O scale layout on its cover back in 2000, I think. I'm pretty sure it was 3 rail. The layout featured big stucco covered viaducts and bridges.

Dave's a big boy. He can speak for himself. I think most his O scale was 2 rail (Williams?). He bumping up to 7/8's scale, anyway.

MTH, Lionel? In short, yes.
But I've modified them somewhat.
I started out laying 3 rail tracks outside. However, I got tired of cleaning the rails so I've modified the locomotives to run on battery power; both manual and remotely controlled.
I've switched to 7/8 scale recently, but found use for the Lionel and MTH drives and wheels etc.
Here's my MTH Railking 2-8-0 plowing snow last April (April snowstorm). I run the trains in rain and snow, incidentally.

I have. The layout will be 4 years old this May.No major problems to report. All the engines are MTH, using DCS. Rolling stock is of all maunufactures. Track is Atlas Nickle Silver. Its UV proof, and can withstand the elements.
