video embed trouble shooting
Posted by Leverettrailfan on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 12:21 AM

This is really bugging me- I was given instructions in another post on how to embed a Youtube video in a forum post- and it worked for his post. But I did the exact same thing he did and it doesn't give me a video.

I checked again now, and his successful posting of the youtube video is gone from his reply. It used to be there, now just an empty white space in the post. Does anyone know what's up here? I copied the URL for a video, pasted it into the "source" field after using the "insert/edit video" tool, but when I hit "okay" it just gives me a greyed out rectangle instead of my video. If I let it post, it just shows up as empty white space in the post.
Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

I'm wondering if this is due to further problems with the board software. I've noticed some other issues over the past week.

Let me test here:

Yup, this doesn't appear to be rendering the media anymore. Very strange.

Interesting- the last part of that, is exactly what I have in my source (give or take URL and dimensions), but it won't show up.
I attempted to duplicate what you have in your post here, but I'm getting nothing:

Okay, I've figured out what the issue is. When I looked at my embed code, it had http:// instead of https://. Once I changed that to https:// it now works.

Apparently CTT went to a secure model recently for their URL's: when I look back at former links I've saved they've all been http. But nobody appeared to look into what the ramifications would be with content being linked to their site. And it's also telling that the media embed popup apprently doesn't automatically change the link to a secure URL.

Okay, people are still having trouble with this.

You need to look at the embedded code - for mine, it changed what I pasted in there to http://. Take a look at this example:

Pasting the https:// URL in the media popup:

Then you select the button to display the source code - as you can see, it changed the https:// to http://. You need to add the "s" back in. It's really stupid having to do this, but there it is:

I should have mentioned, that this happened to me too. I did exactly what Spanky describes- inspected the source, and added in the "s". Only took a couple seconds to do, it wasn't hard to find what I was looking for.
