Lionel Multi-control transformer type 1033 not working at all
Posted by luckyl on Saturday, November 13, 2021 2:08 PM

So, we have had this transformer in the family since the 40s, and it recently stopped working. We replaced the circut breaker and that did not fix the problem. In fact, that made it worse. It now outputs about 1 volt at high throttle, 10 volts in off position after breaker bypass. Help?

What kind of voltmeter are you using?  You can easily misleading results by using a high-impedance meter on a transformer.  Use a simple analog meter, or shunt your meter with an incandescent lamp rated about 14 volts, like a number 53.

Sounds like you used a aftermarket breaker. it you wire the breaker wrong 10 V is all you will get. I have fixed 3 1033's since Sept cause of owner attepted repairs for replacement breakers.  The wire from the top of the original goes to 1 side of the replacement. then the 2nd wire from the new one goes to the the "B" post solder tab. Hope this helps.
