You are so right. It's especially ridiculous when several large metro areas are not served (Columbus OH; Phoenix).

Well, uhh, yeah, that does seem odd. Personally, I never saw much value in the Vermonter route, other than serving communities east of Burlington.
NY-CHI: 3 routes

CHI-LA: 2 routes
NY-Fla: 2 routes
DC-Norfolk/Newport News: 2 routes

I think you just made my point. It's like an article I just read. It says Amtrak has a bold vision for the future: slower trains than the days before color television.

What is your point? Are all the intermediate points between the two endpoints over two routes irrelevant? Is more than one train per day to the same endpoints too many?
