I've seen similar "Help Wanted" billboards posted by CSX in the Chicago area.

One of our conductors is waiting for an interview with Amtrak for a New Mexico opening.  They do it backwards.  He's already had a physical and drug test.  Usually the interview comes first.

Jeff

From my Jacksonville days - I recall seeing 'advertisements' posted by the FRA for job 'vacancies' for all sorts of positions from all the railroad carriers.  Positions advertized ranged from executive type positions to craft type positions.

Never too old to have a happy childhood!

blue streak 1
June 26th  It is very puzzling that there are not any vacancies listed for east coast trains.  So we have Crescent, Meteor, maybe Cardinal and LSL not listing any vacancies.

I'm going to take a wild guess* in that they hire groups based on the RR's they will run on and rulebooks needed.

*_may be wrong.

Suspect Amtrak is right there with the Airlines - laid off the bulk of the work force during the darkest days of Covid - then expected near 100% return of employees when recalls went out - now they are stupified that less than 20% are actually returning to service, coupled with the normal course of retirements that continued to happen to employees that had too much service time to be subject to being laid off.  Best & Brightest find out that in reality they are Dumb & Dumber.

Also the advantage of pay vs. quality of life isn't there as in years past.  True of all railroads.

Good news only 1 C-19 reported on Amtrak last week.  Now the returnees can start giving OJT to new hires.

Gentlemen I messed up.  I did not check both Laborer/skilled trades and Engineering/mechanical.  Those 2 categories have almost 370 openings with only about 100 beiing unskilled.  Openings date back to Jan 28th.

So these openings seem to point of more Amtrak foot dragging on hiring.  No wonder there is a big shortage of equipment.  IMO management has no excuses.

I don't know, that might depend on "Lines East" or "Lines West!"

I thought it was two drops of green in a bucket of black....... Penn Central couldn't afford the green.

Oh yeah.  A writer for "Trains" said it best concerning Penn Central:

"A marriage made in Hell and the bride wore black!"

Oh, that's easy.  "Two parts black, one part green."  Any Pennsy fan will tell you!

O&W steam era. What was added or changed in the brief diesel era?

In the diesel era the O&W painted their passenger cars in a grey and yellow scheme to match the new diesel units. A pretty good-looking color scheme, but not what I was after.
