The TEE 2.0 proposal has been placed.  You may have to select translation.  For reference 300 KPM = 186 MPH;  250 =155 MPH; 200 = 125 MPH.

Example  --- TEE 1/2 mostly 125 MPH in Germany.

Section 2 is for day trains ..  The first part showing short time implementations of day trains. ( 1-8 ).  Then improvements that are presently under construction  ( 9 -16 ).  Then a list of proposed projects that will improve times even more.   

Section 3 has the night train section starts at 21 - 36A.  Covers 8 routes with possibility of extensions noted in Sect 2 of two routes.  Report notes that sleeping car space is limited at present and requires more space per passenger and basically only one assignment for each route space. 

Conclusion section  --- show all possible connections (  called links ) both day and night. What is startling is the number of connections.  Both connections to begining of each route and departing connections from route near end.  Makes any Amtrak proposals seem child's play. 

Noted are present day route times with notes of what reductions possible with present day construction projects.  Note that the Paris station changing mess is not fully explored IMHO !

The house that I owned in Dallas is 68 years old.  Last time I checked on it, which was about a month ago, it is still in pristine condition.  My parents house in Altoona, which has turned over just once since they died, is 94 years old.  My brother and I drive by the house at least once a year.  It is in excellent condition.

I think they tend to use resources more carefully to begin with. Our pastor is a native German. He's said he was surprised with our construction techniques. Their housing is built to last. Ours is throwaway. 
He also has commented that it's illegal there to drink or eat while driving so no cupholders. I thought oh, that's why vw's skimped on those.

Germans really do recognize the necessity to ameliorate global warming. When were you last there?  Contact with German friends and relatives?  Read and listen to German media?

Deutsche Welle's take on resurgence of overnight trains.  Some on here won't like it  because it is driven in part by folks wanting to ameliorate man-made global climate warming.    

Well, that is what they tell the reporter anyway.   I think they have a market in this country as well without the global warming spiel.   Also, I am not against forcing the airlines into reasonable routes.    So for example the Chicago to Milwaukee flights?    Is that really a good use of aircraft and flight space?   How much faster is it to fly vs the rail option?

Suspect that the airlines that do have flights between Chicago and Milwaukee are not competing for that particular route's traffic.  Suspect they are using Milwaukee as a intermediate point on flights to destinations that are much further away.

On the day Air Florida flew into the 13th Street Bridge in DC.  I took a TWA flight from BWI in Baltimore to DC National to connect with a commuter flight to Newport News.  I was the only paying passenger on TWA's flight which was a Boeing 707 that was destined San Francisco.

Night trains proposed to Schiphol so passengers can take early flights out of the airport.  Might be very inviting for trans Atlantic and trans Pacific flights ?

I'll be watching with great interest to see how the OBB/Siemens 'mini-suite' idea is implemented, supported, and patronized.  That specifically includes the expenses and perhaps difficulties of turning the units effectively.

I still fail to understand why provision of 'breakfast' should be substantially more difficult than it was for most hotel chains here with 'free breakfasts' before the pandemic.

Special legislation is needed to address the issue of VAT differences... and subsequent payment to governments... by international accord, perhaps made specific for this type of train service. I'd at least argue that the advantages in prospective 'take rate' societally far outweigh the marginal revenue from the tax, although it might to be fair have to be extended to the unlikely provision of sleeper aircraft or buses on comparable routes.

Overmod: About 8 years ago we took a 2nd class sleeper (1st class was sold out) wherein our space held 4 transverse bunks slung by chains with two men sleeping in the lowers, leaving us to climb up with our bags. The car did have two types of rest rooms, traditional & western, traditional having a squat through floor hole. The train was fast, a comfortable ride and perfect on time arrival the next morning. An amazingly well managed system of enormous size employing vast numbers of persons but definitly different from our Amtrak & VIA experiences!

Based on populations and no other factors,  US should have 119 sleepers.  

8.439 billion rode Indian rail in 2019, versus 32.5 million on Amtrak, same year.  No comparison.

Oveermod -good find.  500 new sleepers in the 3 classes.  Yet here in the USA we only will have 75 single level sleepers and some number of Superliners.

The International Rail Journal (IRJ) had a headline saying India was adding 500 sleeper cars. The article is behind a pay wall . However the quick summary stated coaches.  So until some one else takes dthis on I cannot really report this .   Maybe some one else can geet a viewable link ?

About slip coaches:

So, who generally picked them up later, a local passenger train? Maybe a local freight?

You think they were always returned to the place they originated from? Or were they maybe used to take people further down the line in the same direction?

Helps the express trains, delays the locals ...

Chez carrier RegioJet announces resumption of overnight services to Croatia again this summe with various locations getting 3 times a week round trips.  This is a repeat of 2020 services that were over 90% full with a capacity  of over 600 passengers each trip.  Calendar days are to be expanded with earlier and later departures in the season.

On the original 'Atlantic Limited' that crossed through the USA on nearly 200 miles of Canadian Pacific track across Maine.....only coach passengers and those getting off in Maine had been inspected by US Custom and Immigration......Sleeping Car passengers “just passing thru”.... were left alone.

When VIA restored the 'Atlantic' in June 1985, US Officials now insisted all passengers would be inspected. Eastbound.....they woke Sleeping Car passengers at 3am ET in Jackman, Maine. Westbound wasn’t as bad: 9pm ET (10pm AT) at Vanceboro. Maine. The trains were running long and full so there were major delays in clearing the train.

Returning from Montreal after riding the First Run......I was in a sleeper. When they woke us at 3am in Jackman.....the US Inspector asked me the purpose of my trip. I said I was in the US only because the train was. He asked if I was trying to be “Smart” and said he would be back to deal with me. Well he must have got the same reply from most others as I didn’t see him again. If they had just left the passengers alone, they would have gone to sleep in Canada and woke in Canada the next morning and most not even realizing they had been thru the States!

The restored 'Atlantic' was only back a short time before people were calling for it to be rerouted via Edmundston NB on the NTR to avoid crossing the US border. Passengers were switching to the 'Ocean' to escape the hassle from US officials even if they had to change trains and wait a couple of hours in Moncton to connect to or from Halifax.

It took a couple of years of negotiations but eventually the train was “sealed” while on the 200 miles of CPR track across Maine. A metal “tag” (that would easily break in an emergency) was placed through the handle on all doors except in the car where the US Customs & INS Inspector rode and only checking passengers getting off in the US.

Anyone boarding in the US was checked by Canada Customs when the trains crossed back into Canada at McAdam NB or Megantic, Quebec

And this was all 16 years before 9-11!!
