Before that happens, it’s worth examining the preceding trail of Trumpian blather.

That has nothing to do with what was being answered by my post.

It was what he said.

I think that, in all fairness to him, what he meant was that the Democrats were trying to whip up enthusiasm for the coronavirus as economy-destroying pandemic in order to ruin more of his campaign or efforts -- that was at a time before the virus displayed its current breakouts.  To the extent the threat wasn't fully real at that time (much as the current perception of swine flu and then SARS as sort of Comet Kouhouteks of infectious diseases) it would have had many attributes of at least an attempt at a hoax.

The infections clone(s) have subsequently proven to be anything but a hoax -- even if we were to give credence to the somewhat ridiculous idea that Democrats are still consciously trying to wreck and impede things to make Trump look bad, a technique that worked quite nicely on Carter and the first Bush.  Perhaps to Trump's credit, I believe he has not made the claim about Democratic hoaxing since the American caseload trends began to be dramatically ominous.

I'm deeply concerned about how the rollout of pervasive effective testing could have been bungled so dramatically and for so long.  That's surely not something that Republican tinkering could or would affect, and it does not sound much like SOP at the CDC I was familiar with 25-odd years ago.  If that is a guide for how any sort of effective 'treatment' (including effective vaccines, the only real thing that can eventually halt the problem with prompt novel induction other than prophylactic mass administration of 3CLpro inhibitors) is going to be implemented, I think self-quarantine of at least the elderly and 'compromised' is highly wise.  As is removing as much of the "incentive" people have to go out, or expose themselves to potential aerial spread.

I've never really thought car cleaners even made a dent in actually 'sanitizing' the cars they turn, and I'm not sure either the techniques or the materials that are 'cost-effectively' used will work very well if at all.  Many of the more potent agents, like higher-concentration quaternaries, have a bad smell or cause contact skin problems when used 'as required' to actually kill viral contamination on touchable surfaces or places where air circulation might spread material back into the air or to surfaces after cleaning.  Note that the fine print on 'commercial' dilutions of some of the nominal 'disinfectants' instruct that all surfaces be left wet for 10 minutes, for ordinary types of expected contaminants -- this may be self-servingly extended for potentially lethal outbreak areas.

I didn't say that he said it was a hoax. What he did say was dismissive and not true, ie, HE LIED about the facts of the situation. He has no respect for the experts and can NEVER admit that he makes mistakes.

President Trump, Feb. 24: “The coronavirus is very much under control in the USA.”
President Trump, Feb. 25: “I think that’s a problem that’s going to go away.”
President Trump, Feb. 26: “The 15 (cases in the United States) within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero.”
President Trump, March 5: “The United States, because of quick action on closing our borders, has, as of now, only 129 cases (40 Americans brought in) and 11 deaths.”
Just days later, there were more than 500 cases and 21 deaths.
Does it seem like  "The coronavirus is very much under control in the USA.”

or 'I think that’s a problem that’s going to go away.”

Electroliner, I'm getting confused by the above exchange.

You asked, "Did you even read what I posted that represented what he did actually say President Trump, Jan. 22: “We have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China. It’s going to be just fine.”

Yes, I read that.  I am not defending the current occupant for the things he said.

I attempted to discount false information.

The national news media said Trump called the virus a "hoax".  He didn't.

The national news media said Trump called the virus "fake news".  He didn't.

You'll notice I said nothing beyond that.

I'll post this before this entire thread gets closed.

Minimizing this pandemic and calling it a continuation of other Democratic hoaxes or MSM fake news is simply dangerous nonsense from Trumpists and  not really worth rebutting. In fact on Feb.  28, Trump said Democrats' criticism of his handling of the corona virus was their new hoax.  Obviously he is sensitive to the criticism of his handling - real.  So hoax obviously refers to the unfolding (at the time) corona virus.

As Truman said,  "The buck stops here" which is true for a well-adjusted POTUS,  not for this entitled narcissist in the WH,  who is never at fault and is perfect in all his undertakings.

What?  It either refers to the Democrats' criticism, or it refers to the virus itself.  It's fairly clear that he was refering to the Democrats' criticism.

In most instances diarrhea is not one of the outcomes.  But people that come down with coronavirus will be quarantined for 14 days.  So, people are laying in a supply just in case.

Oh, there is one other factor.  Anyone that assumes human beings are rationale is sadly mistaken.  This is another example of a knee jerk (irrationale) response to a real problem, but one the media has hyped out of proportion.

You do know, don't you, that paper towels are not meant to be flushed down the toilet?  That'll only cause plumbing problems for you and headaches for the city waste treatment facility.

Your solution would be fine for people with outhouses.

The NBA's willing to take a hit in the cash box over this?  Commendable, but let's see for just how long.  We're talking BIG money here.  Yeah, I'm a cynic, especially as far as professional sports are concerned.

FWIW, I was shopping in a regional equivalent to Walmart this evening, and the shelves they normally stock with toilet paper were full of rolls of hand towels.

I was shocked as well to see that all their shelves of hand santizer were barren for the second week in a row, while their shelves of 91% isopropyl alcohol were completely untouched.

Desperate times...etc.

According to USA Today, Amtrak says that its bookings are down 50 percent and cancellations are up 300 percent.  The company is looking at further train reductions, and non-critical mission employees would be asked to take unpaid time off on a voluntary basis.

Now there may be a silver lining in this cloud.  Clearly, Amtrak won't need as much toilet paper, so maybe it can send the surplus to Walmart, Target, etc.  Or better yet, how about auctioning it off to the Trains Forum participants?

It got to be a running joke back then.  I think that after the oil shortage, marketing caught on to the fact that announced "shortages" could be put to good use in their sales campaigns.  And "since we sold the wheat to Russia" became the excuse for price hikes and panic-induced shortages of any food or or other supplies.

Three Israelis have already recovered from the virus.

As the country went to bed on Wednesday, there were 97 people.
The following are the highlights of who these people are and how they contracted the virus:

Patients Nos. 84, 85 and 86 are in their 30s and 40s and recently returned to Israel from a trip to Germany. They arrived back in the country on March 12 and have been in isolation since then.

Patients Nos. 87 and 88 are children, a 10-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl. They are the offspring of patient No. 42. The boy had been with his father in Spain, returning to the country on February

Patients Nos. 89 and 90 are two women in their 60s and from central Israel. They recently traveled from Israel to Moscow and from Moscow to New York and back to Israel.

On Thursday morning, the director-general of the Health Ministry, Moshe Bar Siman Tov, told Army Radio that he expects that in the near future, dozens of Israelis will be diagnosed with the virus per day, if not more.

Over the last week, the Health Ministry has been rolling out new restrictions on Israelis to help stop the spread of the potentially lethal virus. On Wednesday evening, the ministry said that public gatherings could not longer have more than 100 people. In addition, the ministry advised that universities and other higher education institutions should prepare for distance learning ahead of their possible closure.

Bar Siman Tov advised that Israelis "change your lifestyle to deal with an external threat" and reminded them that it is the elderly and those with pre-existing conditions that are most at risk for becoming fatally ill from COVID-19.

Earlier in the week, the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that all people entering Israel from abroad would be required to adhere to 14 days of home-quarantine. Foreigners who cannot prove they have a place to stay will be refused entry.

In the past, Minister of Health Ya'acov Litzman has compared Israel to Switzerland, which has a similar population, to show how well the country is doing at curtailing the spread of the virus.

On Wednesday evening, the southern Swiss canton of Ticino declared a state of emergency over the coronavirus. According to local media, approximately 130 people jhave been confirmed carrying the virus in the canton, one person has died and 11 are in the intensive care unit.

As of March 11, there were 650 cases of coronavirus in Switzerland, more than 1,000 in the United States and around 130,000 worldwide.

It's in pretty sad shape--I have a coping saw, a keyhole saw, a power saw, a hand saw, a table saw, a hack saw,--but no band saw or crosscut saw; worse yet, they all at my daughter's house, several miles from where I am.
