Miningman" Can I kill him now boss? Please can I kill him now?"
"Arsenic and Old Lace," right?
Distilled from website www.jpost.com:
54light15-- Peter Lorre is something else isn't he.
Sydney Greenstreet and Peter Lorre , throw-in Bogie. Great stuff .
" Can I kill him now boss? Please can I kill him now?"
Elecroliner1935-- Euclid can be the Defence Attorney in the Forum Film Noir. He can easily wear down the DA, the Judge , the Jury, the Courtroom and the press. When he walks in its game over , but in 72 hours of non stop delivery. Good tactic!
Miningman Many Forum participants continue to gaslight Euclid. Fortunately he has managed to maintain his sanity whereas I'm not certain of some of those always attacking.

As the saying goes: "Every bodys crazy except you and me and sometimes I wonder about you as well"
Ahh.. Peter Lorre!
"You despise me, don't you Rick?"
"if I gave you any thought I probably would."
Miningman SD70Dude-- " Can I be a dupe and/or fool in the film? Those are always such fun roles." Sure! I see something along the lines of a Peter Lorre type role.

That's a great fit. I first saw him in 'Arsenic and Old Lace' (with Cary Grant and Raymond Massey, among others), which has stuck in my memory ever since. Though he plays a villain in that one too.....
"You got twelve, they got twelve!"

Sure! I see something along the lines of a Peter Lorre type role. Of course you know you don't make it past the 3/4 mark.
The cast is getting together!
( I have a clear front runner for the evil mastermind Saturday morning cartoon character but there are 3 others that would not be bad..... if I have to go outside the Forum I would pick that Tedros guy , Chief of the WHO. )
Overmod I thought it was the French who called the obstinate English-only speakers the tete-carrees. I stand corrected, I think. Maybe there are as many species of 'blockhead' as there were proper 'Yankees', taking as much pride in the sobriquet.

As has been noted, the dislike is mutual, with nicknames from both sides. Much of it is good natured though some true hatred remains, again, on both sides.
When discussing the major Canadian political factions, "Blockhead" refers to members and supporters of the Bloc Quebecois, a Federal political party that advocates solely for Quebec's interests and has previously endorsed separatism, though they have not focused on that particular issue in recent years.
Other nicknames up here include Tory, Grit, and Dipper (a derogatory term for members/supporters of the NDP).
I don't know if this is still true, but I have heard that anglophone Quebecers called French speakers "Pepsis" as in empty from the neck up. The English speakers are Maudite Anglais.

Overmod reactionarily Anglophobic "Quebecois"?
reactionarily Anglophobic "Quebecois"?
Fixed it for you.
A splinter group of them did resort to violence, once upon a time. Stamping out that terrorist group was Trudeau I's finest moment.
You will also recall that it was only "money and ethnic votes" that prevented Quebec from becoming an independent nation.
The Laurentians are indeed an excellent place to spend a winter holiday. A pity you can't get there by train anymore.
MiningmanOf course there is also the Blockheads, which is like your old Confederacy.
You mean reactionarily Anglophone "Quebecois"?
I have to confess I've been a dedicated Quebec separatist since my youth. It is after all the only place on earth where a true French bloodline still exists. And it has more than its share ... far more than its share ... of astoundingly good-looking women, seemingly more and more of them as you get further north.
Miningman Blockheads
Blockheads
It's spelled with a "Q". (just helping our American friends figure out which belle Province they are from)
Can I be a dupe and/or fool in the film? Those are always such fun roles.
Zugmann- No! Not femme fatalesee enough.
Red States/Blue States and why 54light15 hasn't heard them ..
....because in Canada : Red States are Blue Provinces and Blue States are Red Provinces. Conservatives are Tory's or Torries and are monarchists not Republicans and there is an Orange thing called the New Democrats which these days look like your Democrats but Lberals are Liberals more like your old Democrats. Of course there is also the Blockheads, which is like your old Confederacy. Also First Nation Aboriginal Sovereign Nation , which is like Greenland.
So no one says Red States / Blue States because no one knows what they are talking about.
I suppose that is true- plus we didn't have the internet- the great information sewer.
54light15 wheelhouse, stay in your lane, gaslight, cuck, libtard; even red state and blue state. I moved to Canada in 1995 and I don't recall anyone using those red-blue terms and none of the others, either.
Prior to 1995, we were less PC obsessed, and more colorful terms that were previously popluar have fallen into disuse. The concepts have always been there.
54light15 I have to ask, Overmod- Whiskey Tango Foxtrot is a "besserwisser?" I hate all of these terms- wheelhouse, stay in your lane, gaslight, cuck, libtard; even red state and blue state. I moved to Canada in 1995 and I don't recall anyone using those red-blue terms and none of the others, either.

Wheelhouse, stolen sports terminology formerly used to describe a batters sweet spot when hitting, the location of a swing most likely to produce a home run. Cuck is just shortened version of cuckold(as if those three extra letters are to much for millenials and gen z to speak). Not sure if you want what libtard is, though it should be pretty obvious which two words got compacted together for that one. As for red state and blue state, those have figured more prominently in more recent elections, but I do recall them even being used in the 70's. I'll refrain from any further explanations, but you can find all the weird uses on urbandictionary should you want or need them.

Convicted One charlie hebdo *grammer* [It's spelled grammar, unless you are using a term of endearment for your grandmother ]. Ouch! I guess you got me there. Perhaps I was more preoccupied removing the meme of a grammar n.azi that I had originally incorporated into my reply, but removed because I was concerned that it might be construed as offensive by those determined to take offense. I was too lazy to research it's copywrite status, as well. Notice also that I put multiple blank spaces after the period following "offense". An inexcusable error according to recent versions of Microsoft word.

AFAIK, the older style sheet rule of a double blank space after a period or exclamation mark is still acceptable.
"Carey was best known for portraying manic or violent characters who are driven to extremes."
Ok .. it's all your's, your chosen name 'Convicted One' qualifies you very well.
MiningmanZugmann wants to be the femme fatale .. well ok. You must meet the following qualifications : mysterious, seductive, beautiful women who's charms ensnare her lovers leading them into compromising deadly traps.
I call first dibs on the Timothy Carey type characters.

Wanswheel? Are you serious? More 10-page posts of material lifted from protected sources? Often tangential at best. We already have a *long poster* of lifted material.
Euclid charlie hebdo Convicted One Euclid I did not write what you have attributed to me. If you look a little closer, you'll see that I quoted the comment you were responding to as well as your reply. My observation applies to more than just those comments. Just as a one example, we've got an entire thread devoted to petty critiques of grammer, on a blue collar message board no less. I believe cabin fever is fueling petty discontent in a number of ways. "Petty? Petty?" "Well, excuse me!" [apologies to Wildians and SNL fans]. The parts you object to are more about idiomatic phrases and their etymologies than about *grammer* [It's spelled grammar, unless you are using a term of endearment for your grandmother ]. It is not petty at all if you would care to actually look at it.

Oh, so sorry! My post referred to CO. And it was a tongue-in-cheek joke but I forgot that you are humor-challenged.
Miningman...we need a femme fatale
It's been fun. But it isn't much fun anymore. Signing off for now.
The opinions expressed here represent my own and not those of my employer, any other railroad, company, or person.t fun any
zugmann Euclid Yes, I am aware of that. My point is that unless a person does happen to know about that connection to the movie, the term as commonly used, will be absolutely meaningless. Or they could spend like 3 seconds and look it up. I mean, we can't dumb down everything for everyone.

The term is commonly used. Many are unaware of the connection to the Bergman - Boyer film.
Film Noir would have a field day with the Forum members.
The wisenheimers over here, the dupes over there, the fools there, the gaslighters over here, the evil guy recognizable on every Saturday morning cartoon show, the ex-spurt here, the techno nerd there...we need a femme fatale .. not sure our one regular on the distaff side fits the bill, but Juniata could, as a big surprise.
The hero of course is Wanswheel .
