Fire at Beech Grove
Posted by blue streak 1 on Sunday, May 2, 2021 3:23 PM

Reports on fan sites of fire in paint shop with no working fire hydrants.  Blame put on Amtrak for hydrants not working.  As someone who has worked water systems it is too easy for a valve to be left closed.  It may even be that water supplier inadverntly left valve closed.  Let us not blame Amtrak until we know more.   Anyone have some links ?

That problem is why our fire department checks hydrants twice a year and always find one or more hydrants inop.

This picture seems to show a hydrant half way from the fluid tank and what appears to be a hut with a yellow pipe coming out  the side.  It was a good idea to isolate the paint shed away from other buildings and rolling stock with the exception of loco 822,
