Backed by China, the project is “one of the most important geopolitical measures that Israel has taken in recent years,” says Globes.

    The announcement last week by the M/  Transportation that plans were advancing for a rail link from Israel to the Persian Gulf may be the next big thing.

The concept of a rail connection from Israel’s Med. Sea  port of Haifa to the Arab states was raised 4 yrs  ago by Finance Minister Yisrael Katz, who was transportation minister at the time & dubbed the project “Peace Railway.” Last week, Transportation Minister Miri Regev announced the 3.5-bil. shk  project was moving to the planning stage. “The Gulf to Gulf project is a mega-project that will change the face of the regional economy in the ME & connect Israel to many countries in the region by rail, & will be a gateway to the Med. for them,” Regev said in her announcement last week.

The Jordanian plan includes a new line going eastward to Iraq with an extension southward to Saudi Arabia, which would give Israel rail access to Arab Gulf states and in turn could send goods to Haifa, thereby bypassing the Suez Canal & the extra transit charges involved in using the Egyptian shipping channel.

Globes noted that although the Egyptian government is not commenting on the rail project, in part due to its close economic collaboration with China, Egypt’s main media outlets have called the railway project “economic colonialism of the Zionist State.”

As well, the Saudis still have not recognized Israel, but with the project still years away, that would not yet cause a diplomatic hurdle.

At the same time, Turkey is pushing to have the Chinese run a rail line to its border as an alternate Asian route to Europe that could also involve Iraq and Iran.

It is known that China has a strong economic interest in Israel‘s transportation infrastructure and is investing in a new cargo port in Haifa.

Some fresh news:-

The Northern Planning Committee of the Gov. has given the confirmation

for the new and now well-planned route from Karmiel to Kiryat Shmone -

route.

 

It will be 56 kms. The form of an L .  24 kms to the EAST and then

32 kms up the map to K.S.  The budget will be over 20 bill shkls-

and the work will take 6 -8 yrs. 

 

11 yrs ago they planned the first set of surveys and now -

finally - the project has the green light.

 

There will be 20 kms of tunnels and 5.6 kms of bridges. The average 

speed of the train will be 160 kph.  There will be 4 stations =

Hatzer HaGlillit, Maron HaGalil , Carmiel East and the last station in KS. .

There will be freight service and provisions for future extension into Lebanon..

 

Started In 2010- the plans were ready in 2013, but there was no money to

start the work.

 

A future extension down to Tiveria is planned.

 

The work will be expensive; all the bridges and tunnels will be made

earth-quake proof up to a R 7.2.

AVERAGE speed 100mph... four stops, under 60 miles total length, four stops plus a sharp curve?  No, wait... that's km, not miles!

That will involve VERY fast equipment and track standards, perhaps 186mph or higher.  And acceleration fairly quick to those speeds...

This YOUTUBE video shows the next big project [ already in progress] - of the new set of rails [ 160 k/h ]

from Hadera to Lod -parallel to the North-South  Kvish 6- and known as the 'Eastern rail'.

It will add another 200 trains a day to the current system. About 70 kms of N-S double rails.

Announcement by the spokespersons of the Israel Railways

 

* Israel Railways: Preserve the environment Reduce the use of disposable utensils & bring a reusable glass from home - and receive an automatic discount on the purchase of hot drinks at the train stations *

 

As part of the train's attempt to encourage environmentally friendly consumption and reduce the use of disposable utensils, starting in a few more weeks, every customer who comes to the stalls manned with a reusable cup will automatically receive a discount of one shekel on the hot drink he buys. .

 

This is part of a tender conducted by Israel Railways, in which Strauss Coffee B won the national franchise to operate about 50 stalls selling hot, cold drinks and food items at train stations throughout the country. The concession period is for six years, and the train will have the option to extend it for another four years .

 

As part of the agreement, stalls that have been closed in recent months will be reopened, and their operating hours will be extended. Modi'in, Raanana South and Ahihud .

 

The agreement also includes that the price of a basic cup of coffee will be ten shekels, and the price of a bottle of mineral water will be seven shekels. .

 

* The agreement will enter into force in the coming weeks and upon its entry into force the benefit will begin .

I did not edit Israeli Railway's announcement.  You should excuse their spoksperson's mistranslation of Hebrew to English.

An exact translation of the words Israel Railways to Hebrew would be Missulai Yisrael or Missulim Yisraelim.  But Israelis don't say that.  Instead, HaRikevet.  And exactly translating that to English is The Train.

I believe the v Eternal did produce talk from a dog (Zipper, Trains, Oct. 2017) and from a Horse (Balaam's donkey, Bible's Book of Numbers, 22-24), but the Eternal has yet to have a train talk or write.   But in children's literature:

"Does eating coal cause you pain?" I asked the engfine train.

And the train sighed and replied "I chew I chew chew  chew chew."

As clearly bas I'm telling you, the train said "chew chew chew."

IR has finished their project to remove the grade-crossing at Kfar Habad [ very close to-the BGA airport ] and built this curved over-pass [for cars]  over the tracks - and a big new parking lot for cars at the Kfar Habad station:

My monthly bus-and-light-rail pass costs 104 Sheckles, or 34 dollars.  Each ride on the Arab bus system is three sheckles or slightly over a dollar, used about four times a week.

I pay 2000 Sheckles/month for renring a small 1-1/3-room apartment. I pay the yearly tax, hopefully not much more than 1000 Sheckles.

Food costs run about 18 Sheckles or six dollars a day.

This can give you an idea of expenses in Jerusalem.

You might wish to look more closely at your reference's method for computing the relative expense of kliving in a particular city.  Is the cost of gasoline weighted the same for all cities?

Probably 90% of ManhattAn And of Tel Aviv resident families simply do not own cars.  About 70% of Bronx and of Jerusalem.  This dramatically lowers the  cost of living for us, with the availability of low-cost and comprehensive public transportation.

How good are  the Internet connectionsd, with cosequent effect on telephonr bills?

IR is processing and advancing their plans for a light-rail/  train service from Haifa to the North [ Near Kiryat Ata ] and then across to Nazareth. They are calling it the 'Scenic light rail' . The route will be apprx. 40 kms.

 

 

 

"Trans-Israel has announced the groups that will be allowed to participate in the franchise tender:. Six groups have been allowed to participate in the concession tender for the financing, planning, construction & operation of the "scenic" light rail between Haifa and Nazareth; All groups consist of international companies & leading Israeli companies in their field. The franchise tender, estimated at NIS 3-4 billion, is expected to be published in the coming weeks

 

In recent months, construction work has been carried out along the route in several centers at the same time: in the Depot complex in Kiryat Ata, along the route in the Galilee landscape and in the Bay Center in Haifa.

 

The Minister of Transport and Road Safety: "From the start of my first days in the ministry, I have stated that mass transportation and the improvement of public transportation throughout the country is a top priority. And now not only in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, the RKL is also coming to the Galilee and the Negev. Tel Aviv - Haifa Tracvelers already have the best  service oif any rqail service in bIsrael, mare frequent than

Jerusalem - TA. and far better than Jerusalem Haifs.

 

Much higher priority shoukld be given vto decent  and useful rail service Modiin - Jerusalem (very very loiw cost,

just va simple flyover why connection at one locatioin) and either light or heavy rail with stationws at the

resuidential nwighborhoods in Beit Shemesh for Beit Shemesh - Jerusalem.

1.  Aharon Gazit reports the eklectrification north from Tel Aviv to Herzelia is completer, as well as south throgh Ashdot to Ashkelon.  Siemens has there set-up an assembly plant for their EMU kits sent from Europe. and Aharon furnished some pictures.

 

 2.   Steve Sattler has sent a 1933 photo of Ramla station, on the original Jaffa - Jerusalem line.   Today, Rmla seen  service north via Lod to Tel Aviv and onward, south to Bieer Sheva, and easgt ti Beit Shemesh, with service beyond Beit Shemesh to Jersalem, the most scenic part of the railway system, not yet restored.
