Texas Eagle Service Disruption

Amtrak probably will have to run more than one bus to handle the passengers between San Antonio and Fort Worth. Also, the run will take longer than Megabus and Greyhound because the Amtrak bus(es) will have to cover all the stops made by the train, i.e. San Marcos, Austin, Taylor, Temple, McGregor, Cleburne, and Fort Worth.

Amtrak could have one bus run from San Antonio to Austin and from there straight to Fort Worth, but the through passengers would just have to wait longer in Fort Worth.

If my experience of riding the Eagle is any indication, many of the people who board the train in San Antonio, San Marcos, and Austin get off in Fort Worth.

I cannot help but wonder how robustly Amtrak senior management pushed back on the UP to run the Eagle from Longview to Taylor via Jacksonville, Palestine, and Hearne, which is what it did earlier this year. Being able to do so would allow the train to serve its major population centers south of Fort Worth.

Amtrak is still not showing this as a service disruption on its webpage, so maybe the final outcome will be different than where it stands today.
