Announcement that Amtrak will get permanent trackage rights on the TRE tracks from Dallas to Ft. Worth. Few final items to iron out with service to start early 2015. Note: ARRA grant for some additional double tracking. Question will Amtrak retain rights on UP in case of a problem on TRE? Would only need to exercise those rights ocasionally on UP for crew to remain qualified.

Thank goodness. This will save all that backing into Fort Worth Intermodel through Tower 55. Save lots of time and lots of safety.

I rode the Eagle from Dallas to Fort Worth in July when it was running on the TRE. It took us 41 minutes to run from Dallas to Cow Town, and this included a stop at CentrePort Station to allow an eastbound TRE train to pass.
The current schedule shows #21 taking 1 hour, 35 minutes to run from Dallas to Fort Worth. Number 22 gets an hour to run from Fort Worth to Dallas.
Under the current schedules, when 21 and 22 are running on time, the dwell time in Fort Worth is so long that people have time to get off the train, go to one of the local restaurants, and grab something to eat. That is absurd.
