Finally, on my way to work yesterday, I found the UP escalator back in service, garbage removed. It's nice enough to have it back in operation, but I'd still like to know why Amtrak station management didn't reverse the DOWN escalator the way almost anyone else would have. Or why they couldn't post decent signage and keep the garbage off.
Why don't you call the station management team and ask them for an explanation. I have called Amtrak's corporate offices in Washington on several occasions and gotten a satisfactory answer.

Calling customer service or writing to Amtrak's customer service line is not likely to generate a good response. The people who staff those functions are not in New York. If they follow up on the issue, not always a given, they have to contact someone at Penn Station to get an answer. At best it is a time consuming exercise; at worse they get the same run around as an outsider.

Contacting management is challenging, but it can be done. I always go to the top dogs if I have a legitimate concern and can state it precisely, concisely, and agreeably.
