SPUD - 2 Empire builders at once ?
Posted by blue streak 1 on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 7:49 PM

Train 8 is 15 hours late nearing St Paul and #7 about hour late.  Unlikely but could be both trains at SPUD at same time. Is there track space there for such an event ?

Google Earth shows 2 tracks, one on either side of the platform:

The cronically late EB's are at the mercy of CP and BNSF. I am sure that if there is no room for both of them it will be first come ,first served while the other wait. After all if they are in the hands of Minnesota Transfer they are off the main, right? I was on the eastbound EB #7 in late April while were waited on #8 I the station in North Dakota . Both train were late any way. We waited 10 minutes and #8 passed. I guess BNSF says while we were at the siding w they would allow two freights to pass. We sat another hour and a half. When we moved we were about 5 miles from the station
