People of good will can differ on the best way forward for passenger trains in the U.S. And they can do so without using pejorative language, i.e. absurd, ridiculous, naive, childish, etc., and phrases like your wrong, you don't understand, etc.

Verifiable statistics and financial data are tools to buttress a point of view. If one disagrees with the numbers, he or she should say why and present alternative figures.

My consistent point of view is passenger trains make sense in relatively short, high density corridors where the cost of expanding the highways and airways is prohibitive. In Texas, where I live, the two most likely corridors would be DFW to San Antonio and DFW to Houston.

Unfortunately, because the emphasis has been on maintaining a so-called national passenger train network, federal monies have not be available to help develop any Texas corridors, although in fairness the state has not placed much emphasis on passenger rail until the last decade.

What we have is the once a day Texas Eagle and Heartland Flyer and the thrice weekly Sunset Limited. They are lightly patronized. Most Texans don't ride them; in fact, most of them don't even know that they exist.

I have learned a lot from people who have views different than mine. Hopefully, the forums will continue to generate a variety of viewpoints. Locking oneself into a view and being unwilling to consider other points a few is not a good idea.
