Ask an engineer, ask a conductor, what is the hardest job at Amtrak? [/quote] As a frequent Amtrak rider, as well as dinning car patron, I can attest to the grueling challenges faced by the on-board food service staff.  Near the top of the list is the unrealistic expectation of many of the patrons.
