Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim will pay for all the costs to rebuild Mexico City's subway overpass, collapsed last month. The billionaire assured Mexican President Felipe Calderon that his construction firm "will pay for everything" to reconstruct Mexico City's Subway Line 12 overpass.

"He will take care of the reconstruction of the entire [subway line] stretch, making sure that it gets done with all the necessary safety [measures] at no cost to the [Mexican] people and without asking [the government] for a budget," Lopez Obrador said.

Slim "will not wait for the judicial [final investigation findings]," and will begin coordinating with Mexico City Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum "so that in a year" the line will be open and operational once again, Lopez Obrador added.
Reporting contributed by CNN's Natalie Gallon and Karol Suarez in Mexico City.

I must say that the Mayor's name doesn't sould like a traditional Mexican name.

Scuttlebutt says corrupción during construction and even more corrupción tainted the inspections after the 2017 earthquake.

This was the same subway that was notable for its tight curves harming ride quality and also damaging the railroad.

Here is an engineering forum link that has a bunch of clear pictres of locations near the accident.  An anaysis of the pictures notes multiple welds on spans and some comment  about quality.

You would also have to consider the strains involved from the 2017 earthquake.

Absolutely:  Have to wonder if Mexico City brought in some expert persons to examine their overhead viaducts.  Thinking about the persons who examined the viaducts after the San Francisco earthquake.

According to the 6 PM news - that line is the newest that has be constructed in the Mexico City system.  When it was actually constructed was not stated.

Anyone have a guess of the weight  of the structure and weight of cars ?  That would give us an estimate of failure analysis ?
