Rosters
Posted by Lithonia Operator on Monday, June 10, 2019 10:08 PM

In the current Trains, where (on pg. 5) it shows reasons to visit trains.com, there is mention of loco rosters for all Class 1 roads, plus Amtrak. By I can’t find that. Can someone please direct me?

Still in training.

You'd think it would be under "Locomotives" - then "Rosters"... or at least there'd be a cross-reference there.  (And there are some interesting things there.)

But the lists I think you want are under "Railroads" (in the black menu bar), then "Rosters".

Glancing through the CSX roster - it would appear to have been created without regard to the locomotives sold/scrapped in the PSR putsch!

Never too old to have a happy childhood!

(hopefully the shortlines benefit on the surplus 4-axle units that are PTC capable before the Class 1's come to their senses)

They apparently just changed that today. It now IS under Locomotives (not Railroads), which is where I had looked yesterday but didn't find it.

Interestingly enough, the menu structure has been changed quite a bit from what it was yesterday, and I have the class 1 rosters in BOTH places, 'Locomotives' and 'Railroads' alike.

Which in my opinion is exactly as it should be.

Interesting if IT made this change based on your post.  It certainly seems cause and effect....

Now they appear to be messing with the interface for the private messaging, perhaps trying to fix the incompatibility with Firefox Quantum (67.0 and up) which has been reported elsewhere.

Interestingly, the 'rendered' conversation text-entry box has no cursor when the text toolbar is rendered, but is completely accessible, with cursor and the ability to type text, before the toolbar and the final UI load.  That should surely give IT a useful leg up either on fixing the feature or devising a workaround for victims.

The rosters are well out of date, so I suggest going elsewhere. Not sure if they've even been updated since being first posted.

Some good sources for accurate roster data include the following...

CSX: http://www.bullsheet.com/csxrosterclass.html

NS: http://www.nsdash9.com/roster.html

UP: https://www.thedieselshop.us/UP.HTML

Not aware of great sources for BNSF, KCS, or the two Canadian roads. The Diesel Shop is pretty hit or miss through the years with their roster data, but the UP roster these days seems to be accurate and kept regularly updated.

I think Don Strack at his UtahRails site, once the go-to place on the internet to learn about the composition and goings on with Union Pacific's locomotive roster, even directs people to The Diesel Shop roster for the UP. So that's a pretty solid recommendation right there.

To add an opinion to this: if you actually want an up-to-date roster for at least a couple of these roads, it will help to subscribe to LocoNotes and carefully work back through the published versions -- I believe this will be the best source for BNSF; it certainly offers a 'bully pulpit' for anyone wanting specific roster data or resolving 'conflicts' in published or available data.

I'm not sure how quickly the Diesel Shop roster is updated, but I'd certainly want to check it against any data in LocoNotes (or similar sites) if you need to know the current state of things -- UP in particular, perhaps because of its sheer size, seems to have pages of roster changes every month.

The Diesel Shop is pretty up to date with the CN roster. It has all the new ones that have been coming onto the property. The Trains one is VERY out of date.

10000 feet and no dynamics? Today is going to be a good day ...
