IIRC the F40PH-2C were all newly built. About 30 were built by EMD, the rest in licence by Morrison Knudsen (now MPI). I think 26 MBTA locomotives came from EMD and 12 from MK. The Coaster locomotives were built by MK. I think only the Tri-Rail MK F40PHL-2 were rebuilt from GP40. Regards, Volker
