SD-40-2 Locomotive testing?

I am curious, what are they doing here specifically with the loco.   Are they testing transitioning between run levels of the Diesel?

Also, did not know they could go that fast on IRM track, which is kind of impressive as well.

Overrunning clutch on the turbo not disengaging properly, I think.

They take it carefully to notch 4, then 5, then they try to wipe to 8 but nearly immediately notch back.  If it were not making boost properly it wouldn't have been clear until the prime mover had accelerated to higher rpm.  The alternative might be loading issues.  Be interesting to see what Don Oltmann, Randy Stahl or others 'in the actual know' say about this.
