Union Pacific SD90s charge up grade near Atchison, Ks.

Last weekend I was in downtown Atchison, Kansas when I saw Union Pacific SD90 nos. 8168 and 8247 ascending the western banks of the Missouri River.  Unfortunately, I mistakenly turned my Canon S 100 Record button off as I watched the long mixed freight roll by.  I jumped in the car and chased the train out of town watching it rise through the hills on the west edge of Atchison.  A few miles west of town, I got ahead of the train and got this video of it leaning into a curve as it nears the top of a long uphill grade.

Right healthy sized train!  Flashers on a dirt road?

Never too old to have a happy childhood!

Atchison has its healthy share of run-through.  Seeing the town's history with railroads (Atchison, Topeka, & Santa Fe) I wouldn't be surprised if the town hall required significant grade protection.
