[quote user="Murphy Siding"][quote user="Limitedclear"] .......................Perhaps you should buy an SD40-2 yourself when UP sells them off in the next few years as EPA regs eliminate them from the fleet .........LC [/quote]  LC: are there EPA regs now, that will eliminate some existing locomotives in the future, or you picturing some future EPA ruling?[/quote]There seems to be a lot of confusion regarding these EPA regs so let's see if I can help a bit...those regulations only apply to new and rebuilt (not overhauled) units.  Older units are grandfathered and are still going to be perfectly viable for quite some time.  As you may have seen here or in trains mag, UP and presumably BNSF and other's are experimenting with retrofits to meet new standards for rebuilding units to meet the new standards, also both builders and aftermarket suppliers have or are in the process of designing retrofit kits to meet the new standards.  The SD40 still has life in it!  Also there are waivers available to smaller lines which lack the resources of the big boys to upgrade at a whim.
