6046 Is running on another railway this festive season, quite a change from normal Santas, its doing The Polar Express and being an American design is going down a storm there. Meanwhile 5197 is progressing quickly and the new steam tubes are almost all in. With luck should start running in before the New year ready for our February Steam Gala featuring both our S160s running together for the first time. Will keep you updated about getting both going up the gradient to Ipstones.Really is something to look forward to.
Always good to hear from you Jeff, and as they said on the Polar Express, believe.
Honestly though, I preferred the Polar Express book to the movie, but that's another matter. The kids like it, that's what's important. And if they like the steam train even more then well, you can't beat that!
I know this isn't a model railroading site but..........many might have interest in that Roco has just released a beautiful HO scale version of the S-160 in several versions. I just got mine from Euro Train Hobbies in NJ.
I couldn't resist the model as the S-160 is my favorite engine having been around them at Ft. Eustis and on the Reader RR.

5197 Has successfully passed her steam insurance test, now having the small bits and pieces put on. Then ready for her running in. Roll on the Steam Gala.
Great news! Send us some pictures if you can or let us know where we can see them!
Here is what is out there on 5197 (on some of these the number is not clear but the description states "5197")...
Painted in primer...
Some photos of 5197 from prior years...
Many thanks for the photos. I cannot seem to post mine on here. Not very computer friendly. Nice to see it in the original grey when it came to the railway, late 1999/2000
Here are a few of 6046...
S160 at work...
The great news is that S160 5197 has commenced her running in trials. The last couple of days it has been running with S160 6046 down the Churnet Valley line. Its the first time in the UK that 2 S160s have run together in railway preservation. Looking forward to the gala, on the 25th and 26th of this month. Hope some of you will catch it on the Churnet Valley Railway railcams. Yippee !!!!
Great news! If you can get video or pictures, we would definitely welcome them.
Thanks!
I'll be looking forward to those pics and videos!
You know, looking at those pictures kgb posted of the US Army 2-8-0 got me thinking. Some have called them ugly, but to me they look "all business."
Formidable too!
Here is 2-8-0 S160 5197 doubleheading with 2-10-0 BR-9F 92203 doubleheading on a 1000 tonne stone train...
This is the big one for the Churnet Valley Railway both S160s will be heading up to Ipstones on our Gala weekend This time topping & tailing. If you go on the website you will find the train times and locos plus the webcams will be on and you can follow their progress on the line from Froghall to Leek Brook. Unfortunately we have only recently taken over the 90 odd year lease of the line to Ipstones so no webcams there yet. For details of times and locos ( remember the time difference ) visit Churnet Valley Railway website and enjoy the sight of 2 restored S160s together for the first time in Europe if not the States. Enjoy
Nice little video of yesterdays action with the S160s in action. On youtube Churnet Valley Railway Winter steam gala 2017, Chris Lawtons 3rd video showes both of the S160s toppping and tailing through Cheddleton Station on the way up to the Ipstones line. On the back is also an American designed Tank engine which will detatch at the next station and bring back the token for the CVR line. Alot of interesting working yesterday
