Railfanning NS through Chicago...
Posted by TimChgo9 on Tuesday, July 31, 2007 11:45 PM

Just a question.

I woiuld like to get some more NS photos, other than from the BNSF. I was wondering if the NS line that crosses the EJE at "Brisbane" is still being used.  On Google Earth, it looked abandoned. Is there anywhere that NS comes into Chicago on it's own rails? I was just wondering.  Any info would be helpful..

The NS line through Brisbane (ex Wabash) was sold to Metra, and is abandoned south of Manhattan, just south of Brisbane. NS gained trackage rights on IC (now CN) south from Chicago to reach St. Louis.

NS has two key lines into Chicago, the former NYC Lakeshore route, and the former Nickel Plate line to Calumet Yard.
