I do alot of my train watching along Norfolk Southern's lines and I was wondering why they have so many diesels that were built with high short hoods. I belive that it was a carry over from Southern because I remember that about all I ever saw in the pre merger days were high hood EMD's with the black, white, and gold paint. Does anyone know the reasons for building one like this?
