Deshler Ohio-crossroads of the B&O Matt eats your fries.YUM! Clinton st viaduct undefeated against too tall trucks!!!(voted to be called the "Clinton St. can opener").
adkrr64The CSX bridge in Syracuse was hit by a truck for the fifth time this year. This time, it was hit by......a truck from a contractor that was hired to repair the bridge after previous strikes.
Aside from signage, the bridge hasn't lost a bout yet...

tree68Had an earthquake here a little after 2PM. I didn't feel it..
Likewise here in earthquake land, but I never notice unless they are M4+ and very close.
Weather finally seems to have turned to spring, this weekend had one day touch 80F and several later this week are supposed to. Heater set to 66F never came on last two nights. Kitchen thermometer reads 74F at 7pm. Yay!
Reservoir levels are looking really good. Shasta is up to 95% and inflow is tailing off. Oroville is 89% full and leveled off at ~17k cfs inflow; outflow is set around 14k with plenty of upward room as snowmelt ramps up.

The barometer continues to tumble...
Temperature has dropped 15 degrees since Noon.
Never too old to have a happy childhood!
Went out for a train break.Csx sent a westbound and sent the grain train from the elevator east. The NDW had more ties down by FC.Talked to some of the crew.Said they are getting some more rail brought in.Also going to redo a crossing on High street as well.Going to enjoy the sunshine.
The barometer is dropping like a rock.
That is all.
Oh, and I got the drone up mid-day today and captured a cool 360° view of the area from ~400'. It's on FB if you're a friend.
Ns pulled out the flat car today and left it on the siding track.Nothing else that I could see uptown.Stuff to do inside this weekend since mother nature wants to send rain.
The weekend weather forecast here now calls for some rain - which will make the Snirt Run into a mud run...
Nice today, though.
Ns sent a train by after work. Also have an empty flat car on our dock.Glad tomorrow is Friday. Our park mowed their area.Anyone have a bale wagon we could borrow?
CSSHEGEWISCHNot really necessary. We get those kinds of weather changes on a routine basis in these parts.
Over the past several weeks we've gone from 80's to 30's and snow and back to 80's this coming weekend. That's spring in the north country...
A big event on Tug Hill this weekend will be the "Snirt Run." Sonny Elliot fans will recognize the combination of snow and dirt - because the ATVs will likely encounter both.
mudchicken Somebody PLEASE drug test Mother Nature. Went from 55 degrees to driving snow and toppled trees in 90 minutes.

CSSHEGEWISCHNot unlike the GN F45 shell at the Izaak Walton Inn in Montana. At least it isn't being turned into razor blades.
That shell is an incredibly nice "hotel" room with a picture window view of the BNSF main. The cab is still intact with an AAR control stand and fireman seat. When I was there (2013), it also had working headlight and MARS lights which could be activated from the appropriate switches on the control stand. The engine room fans are still there, covered with plexiglass to form skylights in the bedroom.

Minnesota Zephyr F7A #788 has now arrived in La Junta and is the third "stuffed & mounted" locomotive in town. (Baldwin 4-6-2, Plymouth ML6 and now EMD F7A) It is going to live out its days as a rental cabin at the KOA campground west of town. It has no prime mover and will be painted in Santa Fe warbonnet colors.... https://youtu.be/RKAPnTKGpUY
Ns has plenty of stuff uptown.Tomorrow is a meeting in Deshler.Chores to do here.
BaltACDAt least it wasn't a plastics plant! They seem to be all the rage for fires right now.
I have to imagine that the liquor behind the bar didn't help any.
The building was in the vicinity of 100 years old - maybe older. Lots of dry wood...
At this point, the fire is mostly out and the investigators have begun their work:
That was taken from my vantage point on the pumper.
My name showed up on our text paging as the caller - pretty much everyone knew when they saw that knew that it would be the real deal. It sure was.
Careful Larry - they'll blame that fire on the railroad since you found it.
It's been fun. But it isn't much fun anymore. Signing off for now.
The opinions expressed here represent my own and not those of my employer, any other railroad, company, or person.t fun any
tree68Very long night last night, and right into this morning. Went out to my back yard to check out the Lyrid meteor shower shortly after midnight. Scored a few before I noticed an odd orange glow in the sky. Our streetlights are all LED, so it's not like it was from sodium streetlights. Walked to the front of the house and discovered heavy fire sprouting from a couple of windows of the local watering hole. Cue the call to 9-1-1, a rush to grab my shoes (it was almost bedtime - I was in my slippers), and into my vehicle for the short drive to the fire station. By this time, dispatch had played their music (pager tones) and one of our firefighters met me at the station. We drove the two short blocks to the fire scene to discover that the fire now had hold of the entire second floor and was through the roof. With limited initial manpower and equipment, we didn't stand a chance. Eventually, the fire went to a fourth alarm and involved a small house next to the bar. Investigators laid the blame to a small freezer located on the second floor. It eventually fell through the floor into the kitchen area below. The oil in the fryers in the kitchen didn't help the cause one bit... This image was from shortly after our arrival. The hose lines are from the pumper I was running. We had water issues initially, until we got sufficient manpower and apparatus on the scene. This will mess my sleep up for a few days - up all night, nap during the day, can't sleep again at night because I slept during the day...
