It's down the street from the old Quickee Mart...

Never too old to have a happy childhood!
Spent part of the day at the NY State Fair with the ADKRR display. Probably 150 folks came through the entire exhibit (several old rail cars - we were in one of them with our set up).
Some folks were interested, other walked right past us.
I think they are still looking for help for later in the event. I may go down and help again.
afternoon
Ns had stuff uptown after work.Chores and errands to get to here. One thing that helps is ODOT finally got the exit done on the west side of Defiance.Mamma is happy.

Deshler Ohio-crossroads of the B&O Matt eats your fries.YUM! Clinton st viaduct undefeated against too tall trucks!!!(voted to be called the "Clinton St. can opener").
Ns had stuff uptown and a westbound after work today.Came home and mowed the yard.Matt took care of the trimming for me.Neighbor was watching and said he did a good job.Almost time for supper.Balt yes "Main st." crosses both the Toledo sub and Willard sub in Deshler. The toledo sub likes to remind Deshler that is was trains that founded the town.Especially when they decide to have a parade.

mudchickenGets weird from the get-go, before the train ever departs the yard. Trainmen's names for certain tracks vs. computer location (ZTS/SPIN/CLIC etc) vs. ICC Track numbers on maps gets really bizarre. Different worlds.
Worst part of railroads dealing with the public - "Where is here?"

mudchickenCSX is no different. Walking a mile in another muggles shoes can be a thrill.
Numbers have identified train schedules since the second train was operated. The prefix letter could be considered confusing to some, the three digit 'train number' and the two digit date of origin are self explanatory.
I loved the Chessie System's applying names to trains, however, that even more confusing to outsiders.
mudchickenCSX is no different.
CSX recently made some sense out of their designations when they got away from all of the "Q" stuff. I'm sure calling everything a "quality" train made sense at some point, but "M" for manifest makes a lot more sense... With the Q's, at least the three digit number had some significance, though.
The numbers stayed the same in some cases, with only the leading letter changing. At one point odd and even numbers followed a plan, but I'm not sure that's the case any more.

JoeKohafternoon Didn't see anything on Ns after work.Heard they are changing symbols based on destination? Yesterday Csx was in a mess.Mother nature didn't help with tornadoes and flash flooding.Dispatchers were getting creative parking trains that had no crews available.Have chores to do here.Need to go give hugs on Friday. stay safe Joe

NS train naming conventions have always mystifyed me. They don't even operated Amtrak trains under their Amtrak schedule numbers.
I am sure they make sense to NS employees, but to outsiders they don't appear to have a rhyme or reason.
Helped provide comms support (amateur radio) for a foot race today - runners had the choice of a half marathon or 18.12 miles (as in War of 1812).
Watching the radar, hoping an oncoming storm would pass without incident. Nope. In fact, we were on the edge of a severe-warned cell. I think most of the runners decided to finish, even if soaked.
Took along a pop-up canopy and the camp rocker, but the wind decided neither would be appropriate. Nothing blew away, but it all got put away and I sat in the dryness of my truck instead.
Between a pre-race meeting and the last runner in it was over five hours.
Had to wait on the rain this morning for our walk.Csx is it's usual self.Plus add weather warnings and such made it even longer for some crews.Have 7 trains now to get through Deshler. Some have crews some do not.Guessers say more rain for tonight.

But it will not let me sign out so I can then sign in. No place to even just go ahead and sign in.
Note: It is just that one news wire. All others both before and after are OK !!!

Got word that Csx wants to start a super pool from Cleveland all the way to Chicago. We looked at the Holgate depot on the way home.Looked like someone enjoyed an open door policy. There was also MOW equipment along the ND&W by US 24.More rain for tonight and tomorrow. stay safe Joe

Willard to Chicago, as I recall, was in excess of 250 miles (278 sticks in my head from passenger train days - Grand Central to Willard) I suspect Cleveland to Chicago (depending on where in Chicago) will be well in excess of 300 miles. With the North Baltimore ramp operating creating a parking area around it - 1. Long Pool trains will not work at N. Baltimore. 2. Passing through the 'Parking Zone' will tax the Train Dispatchers ability to manipulate his railroad.
Welcome to the club blue streak 1. The vaunted and highly over-rated computer bubbas failed you like so many others. Kalmbach has some major problems and apparently also a good case of industrial disease (especially in customer service where they are badly out of touch)....
The screw-ups are never their fault
Ns had stuff uptown.Paper reported a too tall truck hitting the Jefferson ave.viaduct yesterday.Deshler has a new flag pole with all the attachments.Have chores to do here. It's football Friday.Mother nature sending rain tomorrow night.
Why is it there is one News Wire that says "you have reached your limit of articles this month" All other news wires can go to repeatly.
Ns had stuff uptown plus the local has cars to switch.Ran errand here at home and found some new shoes.Glad tomorrow is Friday.Sis was able to check on brother this week and he is excited for next weekend to see the 765.
On one of my e-mail accounts I got a unsolicited e-mail that stated a package was out for delivery on DHL and requested me to 'confirm' for delivery.
Checking the e-mail sender indicated that the address was in Russia. Fully suspect it was a phishing e-mail trying to get critical information from me. The delete button works.

Don't think there enough Dixie cups to fill the shortfall this time.
Namaimo73:
Back tracks, sidings, yards, and company owned portions of industrial leads, joint facilities and the like. (mis-interpretation of the annual reports to FRA and STB ...the number changes again with trackage rights and overhead rights.)

Hey guys, hope everyone is well.
I saw this on the wikipedia page for the MKT Railroad-
"At the end of 1970, MKT operated 2,623 miles of road and 3,765 miles of track"
It looks like someone found a new translation of route miles and track miles.
I find it more than a little weird that after 48 hours, the Newswire has yet to pick up on the potential sale of the EVRAZ/RMSM/CF&I steel mill and North American holdings. The cheesepickers in the Trains virtual newsroom taking a virtual holiday?
Joe: Long piece of rail probably means broken rail in a crossing somewhere.
