That's not too surprising in the Chicago area. I can remember a Saturday in 1966 or 1967 when the Loop area got a couple of inches and in Harvey (about a mile south of Barr) I was working for my older cousin and the sky was threatening but we never got a drop.
BaltACDFront came through at Noon and I got one tenth of a inch of rain. PERIOD.
I check in to (or run) a couple of ham radio "nets" each morning. It can be amazing to hear the variations in rainfall just within this area, which includes this corner of northern New York and a portion of southeastern Ontario, radio-wise.

tree68Severe thunderbumper watches and warnings today. No major issues, and we got 3/4" of rain. Hopefully the weather is nice on Saturday as we have an amateur radio "hamfest"/swap meet here then, and a lot of folks like to set up outside - "tailgating."
Severe T'storms were forecast - some school districts canceled afternoon after school activities.
Front came through at Noon and I got one tenth of a inch of rain. PERIOD.
Never too old to have a happy childhood!

Deshler Ohio-crossroads of the B&O Matt eats your fries.YUM! Clinton st viaduct undefeated against too tall trucks!!!(voted to be called the "Clinton St. can opener").
Went for a walk this morning.Saw a few Csx trains.Checked on my brother and NS ran some trains as well. One train came west (898 I think) with random leaser coal type hoppers. Some still had some P&LE markings on them. Also saw some new reefer cars come east with the markings up high on the car.The taggers did the artwork on the bottoms. The swamp is mowed as well.Going to relax this afternoon.
evening
Good work day in Deshler today.Park and museum look good.Turns out our new mower for the park came from a friend of the parks family. One friend for Csx had to taxi to garrett to take a train to Chicago.Another friend was waiting at the Defiance yard to go west when I came home.Mother nature doing a few rumbles but not too much rain yet.Time for supper.
Well people not paying attention"oh theres a train there!!" Ns had cars uptown and a parked train after work.Went into town and heard some CSX traffic.Tonight a former band director and friend is going into the city hall of fame.He would always question why I would wear a Reds cap at band camp.Tomorrow is a work day in Deshler.Matt moves into his summer dorm in Toledo too.Time to get some supper.
BNSF needs to paint a police badge on the nose of one of its road locomotives. Denver police were chasing a burglary suspect in downtown Denver and a moving train single-handedly caught and stopped the bad-guy. (almost exterminated him too) Way to go BNSF!
Didn't see too much on Ns after work.Buddy is taking q 369 to Garrett soon on Csx.Have chores to do here.Matt is getting things for his summer apartment.Going to get some paint for the new steps soon.
Ns had cars uptown and a stack train near the main tracks after work.Came home and put another railing on the other side of the new steps.Got out the trimmer and Matt finished up while I mowed.Little early for Mother nature to give the Triple H's.Time for supper.

blue streak 1 Well CSX screwed the customer again. About 5 - 6 days ago CSX parked a cut of 20 - 24 CSX loaded solar ballast cars on the north end of our shorter sidings. On the end of the cut was a DTTX - 3 well container car. The well car had 6 JBH containers with seals. Finally called JBH today and they were looking for the containers.

Isolated rail cars being moved.
Historical railcars being salvaged from nuclear plant (msn.com)
Ns has some cars uptown.Mother Nature drying things out and warming up too.Matt is up with his train buddies.Deshler work day this coming Saturday.Time to do some regular chores here.
JoeKohCame in to eat supper and I am like it's what time??? Time for bed.
Time flies when you're having fun!
Well Matt went out today and got the 765 for me on it's trip east.He got a few other pictures too.Came home to fix a step on the deck and the stringers broke while I was removing the hardware. So Matt came home just in time and we went and built new steps to the front porch. Came in to eat supper and I am like it's what time??? Time for bed.
Supper last night was interrupted by the chirping of my fire pager. A large, two-story cottage on one of the Thousand Islands caught fire and nearly spread to several other nearby structures, as well.
Wind was a factor, not to mention the fact that it was, indeed, on an island, so all access was by boat. Three fireboats responded, along with several private boats pressed into service to ferry firefighters and equipment. In addition, it went international, as a fire department on the Canadian mainland was also requested.
There was no saving the original fire building. The smoke could be seen for miles.
I stayed on the mainland with our engine.
It was a long evening. Then the fire rekindled, and that could not be handled by the island residents (they have sort of a fire brigade). Don't know what time they cleared that.
Happy Mothers Day
Csx was quite busy this morning. The 765 is set to go to New Haven Yard and turn for the trip to Ohio tomorrow.Swamp is done for now.Matt is doing the grilling for lunch.Going to G+G house later this afternoon.
Ns had a mess yesterday west of Ft.Wayne on the wabash.Did see a stopped train and a hot 218 eastbound at Latty this morning on the former NKP line. After taking care of things in my old hometown went east to Csx.Saw an intermodal at Wapak.Q 351 was tying down at Flanders in Lima.Q 561 in Ottawa was coming south too. Then in Deshler a sulphur train with Cn power and a phosphate train with CP power turned to go south.Swamp needs to dry out some more before I mow.Time for supper here.

Thursday morning sometime earlier than 0730 2 opposite trains tried to meet at the above siding. Of course meet was impossible. Appeared that one train was too long to go into siding with the cut occupying the siding. Somehow a saw by was performed that took until about 1120 to complete. Was otherwise engaged so could not observe the action.

Unfortunately, the Atlanta Division ETT that I have dates from 2005. At that time Shorters was not classified as a Siding - it was a 'runaround' track nominally for the locals to run around their trains to change direction or to runaround specific cars to allow placement in industries without trapping the engines. Shorters is approximately 25 miles North of Montgomery on the A&WP Subdivision.
BaltACD Just watched the end of the movie 'Appolo 13' with Tom Hanks and company. Even though I was around an paid attention at the time of the of the incident and have watched the movie multiple times including in a movie theatre. Every time 'it gets me'. The raw human emotion that gets displayed by everyone - gets me.

I was aboard a Navy ship doing some classified research at the time. We were laying over in Pago Pago between missions, as I recall, when we got word to beat feet for the "zero G" landing area - a possible alternative to the intended landing zone. We were apparently one of the only Navy vessels in the area.
"Beat feet was a relative term - we were on a Liberty Ship - 11 knots (88 turns of the screw per minute) would shake the fillings out of your teeth.
We refitted our weather baloon tracker as a homing antenna with a helical coil in place of the usually tracking antenna. I have a picture of the sunrise that morning silhouetting the apparatus, which was installed on the helo deck on the bow.
Several sailors on board with dive experience readied their masks and flippers.
Alas, the capsule came down in the primary landing zone. We enjoyed a cake baked for the occasion and headed back. Due to our primary mission, we got no public recognition.
Yes, I was in the Air Force. OTOH, I'm one of the few USAF shellbacks...
Ns had a westbound after work today.Matt and I went to check on brother.Ns ran a local back to Bryan and some stack trains.Rain might stop by tomorrow morning.Swamp is kinda full now.Chores to do.
7/8 of a inch of rain since Midnight - rain to continue through Sunday - in the 50's.
2.15 inches Midnight to 7PM
Maybe spring will get here yet. A genuine warm spell (highs in the low 80's) is predicted to begin around here on Monday.
Update
The 765 is not only going to do trips on the CVS in Ohio. They are also going to do trips on the Indiana Northeastern as well here in Northwest Ohio.Something to look forward too.
Ns was the same as yesterday.Heard a csx eastbound while running errands in town.Had an ACE horn for sure.Swamp is getting a refill.Wish we could share with those out west.Waiting for college boy to come home.Going to go check on my brother this weekend.Glad tomorrow is Friday.
Eye surgery is complete. Starting to see some improvement, but it will be several weeks until I get to 100%.
Weather coming home yesterday from Syracuse was miserable. Heavy rain and mist, then there was the spray, expecially behind semi's, that completely hid them from following vehicles.
Gotta do some reports and go to a meeting tonight, otherwise, it's kick back and relax.
Ns had cars uptown and a maybe a train in the siding. We had plenty of rain yesterday.More coming for Tomorrow and Friday.College boy said he is coming home tomorrow.Chores to do here.
