Ed, I wish you all the best. I have enjoyed the bright sunshine of actual knowledge and experience you brought to the forum. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.
Ed, thanks for taking the effort to type what you did. I know it was not easy, and you did it for all of us, your loyal readers. And thanks for your faith. That in itself will help you, and we do truly look for your total recovery and return.
I'm at a loss for words as well. Very sorry to hear this..
Very sad to hear of this. Hoping for the best.
Thank you Mookie, for alerting us.

edblysard you have no idea what a gem she really is. I will get better, I will return, in what form I don’t know, but I will be back!
Ed, I am very happy to read your last post. As we get older, we learn how precious life is and how much we would like to keep living. We also find we appreciate more the friends we have and what they mean to us. Especially those like your daughter, Jen.
I have appreciated all of your posts and your sharing of your experiences with us. Thank you. May you beat this and stay with us as long as you can.
And Mookie, Thanks for the info.
Electroliner 1935like your daughter, Jen.
Electroliner: I am going to take that as a high compliment. Actually, I am closer to your age and older than Houston Ed by at least 10 years. Beth is his daughter - I am just Mookie/Jen - but he was my mentor when I first started the forums. He and Mudchicken were always there for me and silly questions. Trust me - I had some major silly ones, too.

Mookie/Jen,
Until you posted I had no idea Ed was having health problems. He is not one to complainn and he has consistently been one of the most informative and respected posters on this forum.
I am much older than Ed and also have been a smoker most of my life. I can only wish that Ed be granted a reprieve like my older sister was.

Just 2 minutes ago, I was directed to this forum site via a post on Facebook. And what I saw first was Jen's writing. No use to try to describe my feelings from what I first skimmed over and realized what I was reading. So we won't go into that. Ed....My warmest thought occurred when I read "I believe in God".....Yes, that pleased me to read that. I'm a Believer as well Ed. Nothing more important than one to understand what that means. But for now. I shall enter you and your family on my nightly Prayer List, that I do right before heading to bed. With Prayer, we're talking to the Lord....asking for the Lord's presence to help...a friend.....A long time friend. That we shall continue doing my friend. And for your family too.....Quentin

I'm not on here all the time, but have been around long enough to read and benefit from much of your knowledge Ed.
I really enjoyed the piece you wrote in the magazine some years ago about what it was like to hire on with the PTRA, and my own later experience hiring on with CN was not dissimilar.
Get well soon, looking forward to reading many more of your posts for many years to come.
Greetings from Alberta

Although I'm late in saying it, my thoughts and prayers have been with you, Ed. I read Mookie's post within a few minutes after she wrote it. I was floored, to say the least. The timing of her post also threw me. I lost my father to a form of brain cancer on Sept 15 many years ago. His they found too late. It sounds like, and I hope and pray and expect this won't be the case with Ed. It's hard enough to except that when I scan a train list and see cars going to the PTRA that Ed won't be switching there. Harder even to contemplate a world without Ed.
That actually goes for all the regulars that I've had the priviledge of knowing on here. I may not agree with everyone at times and I've only met a few of you in person, but I consider you all to be friends.

Glad to hear you are doing somewhat better Ed. I always appreciate your posts, especially your Christmas story.
Will be praying for you and your family.

Ditto. My server made several attempts over about 12 hours until I got a terminal message, mailer-daemon error, undeliverable. I just copied and pasted what Ed had offered in the email where he posted his email address.

edblysard Funny you say that…I just watched a train roll by heading into the PTRA, and couldn’t help but start to mentally take it apart. Had to stop myself there! I agree that there are several different, but reasonable voices here, and yours has always been one to listen to, it brings things to the table that often are missed. I will keep reading, just for that…

Hope this finds you better; coping with any stage of a retirement can be difficult. Old habits are hard to walk away from. There is truth in the old statement about taking some one out of 'something', but never being able to take that 'something' out of the person.
I've been 'retired' since 2001. Still enjoy watching the trucks,[ and trains!] as they pass by.
Praying for that speedy recovery, after all, you are one; if not the only one (?)who has had a story published in TRAINS.
Ed keep up your fight and get better. My husband also is praying for you. He is also retired due to medical reasons. He knows that feeling of something and going hey I know how and where to go with it all the time. This man can and does plan our road trips to the point when we go anywhere we can beat Rand McNally on miles 60% of the freaking time.
Best Wishes from here.
Thank You.
One of our volunteers "didn't feel right," short of breath, would tire (more like be exhausted) after nine holes of golf, just wasn't himself.
Now, after a triple bypass, he's feeling better (as his rehab progresses).
It pays to pay attention to what your body is telling you.
Keeping an eye on your progress, Ed.

Thank you for the privilege of doing my best to help.
