That engine's so beautiful that, to coin an old phrase it "Breaks your heart to look at it!"
I have to second what that poster said on RyPN, they should give serious thought to putting an eight foot fence around it to discourage the usual butt-head vandals that might (will) find it an irresistable target. They're all over, no place is immune.
Yes, that is a beautiful engine, and those who put it where it now is certainly should be commended for their labors.

In other news -- we've discussed this before, but it never hurts to repeat the photo opportunities and recognize something well done.
This hit RyPN a couple of days ago...

I did notice another feature I've never seen though - right under the engineer's window appears to be a hook of the type usually seen on RPO's, for picking up mail. I presume it was for picking up orders on the fly.

Also notice that the 'air hose' has it's gladhand turned in the wrong direction to work with the air brake system.

Deggesty BaltACD NDG Looking Forward. From ebay. https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/lLMAAOSwstxU4sBu/s-l1600.jpg Thank You. Air hose placement doesn't appear that it can couple to other cars or engines without assistance of another hose. desn't the headend brakema always carry another hose in his pocket?

He may carry a 'genuine' air hose - that screws in on one end and has a gladhand on the other. To make a connection in the pictured case, he would need a air hose with gladhands on both ends of the hose.
Note - in areas where long cars (auto racks or trailer flats) are handled the local car department will normally have a number of 'shorty' air hoses with glad hands on both ends to assist in coupling air hoses as the long cars have a Rube Goldberg sliding air hose trolley arrangement that is frequently damaged and won't let air hose to travel to the extend necessary to couple with the adjoining car.

I know some of our older southern GP38s had a hookup for a sanding MU hose. Possibility here?
It's been fun. But it isn't much fun anymore. Signing off for now.

I would opine it may have been very much like the early F units - they apparently figured they'd always be in the lead.

I cannot say, as I have not been there in Decades.
