I think I may have mentioned this before, but Charles W. Westover (a.k.a. Del Shannon) was my second-cousin once removed. I grew up realizing that he had hailed from Coopersville, Michigan (about 15 miles from home), but didn't know we were related until about 12 years ago. I believe his grandfather was my dad's grandfather on his mother's side.

No more or less than it impacts Amtrak. There is a utility crossing west of the towers (N 43 6' 17" W 75 13' 24"), sometimes used by Amtrak for baggage. Under a watchful eye, passengers would be able to use it.
The biggest problem at this point (and I think they've dealt with it) is getting from the track 2 platform west of the tower, around the runaway and steamer, and into the station. A fence and some shrubbery stood in the way. There are pictures showing station personnel herding the passengers across the stub the runaway "arrived" on.
The dispatchers could theoretically bring all Amtrak trains in on Track 2 (nearest the station), but that will involve a lot of jockeying along the line. I haven't heard if they're doing that - it's very possible.
The Scenic only has to worry about 4 to 6 "windows" - departures of the regular Thursday and Saturday trips, as well as the evening trips every couple of weeks, and those train's returns.

ACY Very concerned about this one. It might be very costly. The tender may have a bent frame; the tank seems to be dislodged. The pilot beam appears to have sustained very heavy damage, possibly extending to the cylinder saddle. No quick fixes there. I hope somebody had a LOT of insurance. Tom

The locomotive is reportedly the only NYC steam locomotive left in New York State. That said, it was not operational. Any and all repairs will likely be cosmetic in nature.
Of greater concern for the moment is the damage to the structure. It could probably be argued that the locomotive reduced the damage, as it soaked up some of the momentum, and there were bumpers both before and behind it.
The bridge spans the CSX Chicago Line. Taking it down would have bound up a lot of traffic, including Amtrak. I'm sure they've reduced speed there substantially until the structural integrity of the bridge can be determined.
The car apparently started rolling about here: N 43 5' 29" W 75 16' 2" and, of course, ended up here: N 43 6' 17" W 75 13' 23". This included some street running and a number of crossings.

According to another source this is a duplicate of a runaway into a couple passenger cars at this same location and track layout. Once maybe twice ???

Hopefully the 0-6-0 didn't fare too poorly in the collision and is quickly repaired along with the station.

And the responsible party? They really wished they called in this morning.
Wonder what that guy with the car (rubber tire version) was thinking... And, how he is going to explain this one to his significant other.... "Well, it's like this, this train car came barreling down the hill, out if nowhere, slammed into the car, then took out the loco parked at the passenger station"...
He may have better chances getting her to believe he found Bigfoot.... And he was not happy to be found!

No - the FL9 is hidden by the left hand tower. That's 1502 - the F10. That's a fairly old picture - the passing track isn't in yet.
Unconfirmed report that plastic pellet car had been sitting at end of siding for 1 week +. Could this be another case of hand brake failing. Was derail installed and did car run thru it ?
