Ah, yes... The junk drawer. Has there ever been a house that didn't have one?

CSSHEGEWISCH You put your tin snips in the kitchen tool drawer??? Of course, you know that means that they're lost forever, buried beneath the scissors, notepads, calculators, rubber bands, pens, markers, grippers and who knows what else that has accumulated over the past 30+ years.

And just like the rest of us - when you can't find the tool you are looking for, you go out an buy another. I've lost count of the duplicate tools I have, some are even triplicate.

Deshler Ohio-crossroads of the B&O Matt eats your fries.YUM! Clinton st viaduct undefeated against too tall trucks!!!(voted to be called the "Clinton St. can opener").
Low overnight here last night was +66.7F, today's high hit +89.8F. We're warmer than Atlanta! We could use some of that rain though. When I mow, it'll be to even out the weeds...
I checked Blitzortung earlier today and found the entire northeast clear of lightning. The only thing showing on the map was down in the Carolinas. I like to check Blitzortung because while the radar shows precipitation, the lightning shows where there's heavier weather.
Got more work done on the house. At long last, I'm getting paint on the portion of the roof that needs it, and having replaced the handle for the pressure washer, I can finally make progress on painting/staining the siding again.
Nothing on the railroad until the weekend, but no matter, I've got to do a booth at a local model railroad show just a few miles from the house.
And Friday night is our county firefighter's associations 9/11 memorial ceremony. Which I have to preside over...
No rest....
SW of Atlanta here low last night of 66.5 and high 85.1 today. + we are now having a nice shower . CSX doing its usual fleeting by here.

Sorry I hadn't responded to your post earlier. Doing those things is SOP for me when something like this pops up. You have to be careful about solely looking at the CPU, though, as legitimate background programs such as data storage systems take a lot of power. Some malware uses the internet to wreak its havoc by stealing your computer proccessing power and using it elsewhere, so one trick is to see if a suspicious program suddenly stops or reduces load one the internet is disconnected.
It just happened again, so I'm enabling Adblock for a while until this blows over.
Go into control panel and look through the programs.
Most will make perfect sense - either you installed them yourself, or they're obviously part of a larger package.
If you have a question about a program, do a search (choose your favorite search engine) on the program. If it's malware, you're sure to find plenty of links on how to get rid of it.
Bring up Windows task manager (Cntl+Alt+Del, select task manager). Look through the programs running there and do as above. Odds are most are legit. Click on the CPU column. It will either sort least to most, or most to least. You want most to least (down arrow). Oftimes the culprit will show up using a lot of processing time. And you can search for the various processes that are running, as above.
Be sure to check the box that says "Show processes from all users." Some malware runs hidden.
Getting rid of malware can be as easy as deleting the program. Websites will often tell you to download "their" solution to the malware problems. Do so at your own risk, unless you know it's a safe solution.
That's right. You can't run more than one anti-virus program at the same time.
Make sure you uninstall your old antivirus befor attempting to install a new one.
Yup, to run Kaspersky you have to turn McAfee off.....

I use Adblock, but I have it disabled on this site as I want Kalmbach to have the ad revenue. I subscribe, but this forum is not something that they have to spend resources providing. The malicious pop-ups didn't start until about three days ago. I may be re-enabling Adblock if this continues, for the safety of my computer.
Don't get caught with Kaspersky and McAfee running on the same server. (We did )
I have Adblock plus installed and never see those popups.

Flash should prompt you to update on your desktop, or update automatically.
A malware scan pulled up nothing. I think it is the ads.
EDIT: Now it's a Java update. Site is something along the lines of updatelive.softwareupdate.com. Please, make it stop!!!!!!!
NorthWest I've been getting weird and suscpicious messages on this site this morning, telling me that a virus was getting installed. Later, a McAfee message popped up telling me I needed to ugrade Flash player. I don't even have McAfee installed on my computer. Don't fall for it!

I've seen those Flash popups a couple of times in the past month or two. They always say the Flash Player is out of date. Sometimes I actually have to quit Safari to get things back under control. Each time that I did that, I then went to the Adobe site's Flash page and noted that the current version was the one that I have on my box.
These are almost as annoying as the MacKeeper popups trying to get you to download their useless app. Those got a lot of discussion activity on several different Mac community forums on the Apple site.
Though, it's still not as annoying as the "do not call" violators.
Virus detection doesn't always pick up spyware and malware - sometimes it installs as a "bundle" with something you wanted. You don't recognize it as a problem at the time. Every now and then, despite having virus protection running, I'll manage to get a program installing itself that isn't a virus but still manages to generate pop-ups, etc.
Curing it usually involves figuring out what program is causing the problem and deleting it via add/delete programs under control panel. If you can recall when the problem started, you can oftimes find a program listed that installed on or about that date. A web search on the program name will probably identify it as the problem.
I don't think so, as my (very good) antivirus software picked up nothing, even with a full scan. I think the idea was to trick a user into downloading one by telling them Flash Player needed updating when it should update automatically. The pop-up was probably triggered by malicious scripting in an ad somewhere. I've had this before, and clearing cookies fixes it.
The new no-longer-train-related video advertisements may be to blame, but at the minimum, they make this site run very slow, sometimes to the point where it takes three key presses to get a character. I'd like for Kalmbach to recieve the revenue, but this is getting frustrating.
I would suggest installing and running Malwarebytes on your computer. Sounds like you have a virus.
afternoon
ns was clear when I left work.mother nature sent us some rain.going to enjoy the weekend.

While hacking of email accounts does occur, so does "spoofing," where someone sends an email from their own account, but makes it look like it came from "somewhere else." Oftimes someone you know. If the account isn't actually listed on your "from" line, hover over the name and see if the email address matches up with the supposed sender...
