May I suggest that since Frisco is such a great name for a cat (for several reasons that come to mind), why not consider naming his successor Frisco, as well?

I once knew a man in New Haven (he died at like 106) who had a succession of cats, each of whom he named Pepper.  He never had to stop and think what the cat's name was (like I do sometimes, but then I have four) and I think every new Pepper took away the sting of the loss of the previous Pepper.

I've not done this myself and it's only a suggestion.  But I like the name Frisco a lot.  Btw, if the new cat was a purebred his papers might show his more formal breeder name to be not Frisco but St. Louis and San Francisco, instead.

This was a wonderful thread to read; best luck to your parents.

Scarlett O'hairball- I love it! My cat purrs all the time, sometimes I call her "Buzz bomb."

OK, I'm late in the game here, but...

If it's a female I'd call her "Katy".

We named one of our racing Greyounds after Kate Shelley.  When we brought her home to be a house pet after her track days were done we called her "Katy".

"By many measures, the U.S. freight rail system is the safest, most efficient and cost effective in the world." - Federal Railroad Administration, October, 2009. I'm just your average, everyday, uncivilized howling "anti-government" critic of mass government expenditures for "High Speed Rail" in the US. And I'm gosh darn proud of that.

I believe Diesel would be a good All purpose name with Cinders being a close second if you favor the steam period.
