UP and BNSF also replaced the diamonds at Fremont NE on yesterday. The track there was scheduled for opening about 3am this morning.

Still some ballast piles visible.
Never too old to have a happy childhood!
xjqcf First BNSF eastbound on #1 just got permission through form B limits.

First BNSF to hit the new diamonds at 9:45 (Not counting the aborted attempt by the local, which would not have crossed any diamonds)
xjqcf The BNSF Rochelle local is back to work. After doing their yard work will be the first movement over the 199 switch since the track panel was installed late last week. It was ballasted but not surfaced.

Did not catch the exact reason, but they abandoned the attempt to enter the track. It involved some discussion with BNSF track person on site.
2 eastbound UP's almost nose to nose. The stack train on #2 first train out of (or in, for all that matters) Global 3, merchandise on #1
I have been timing the train's speeds... I get just under 15 MPH. (2.504 seconds for a 53-ft container to pass a given point = 14.4 MPH)

First Wedgie!!
BNSF dispatcher giving first slow orders, 10 mph
First UP eastbound, another Z, starting through on #1 at 8:27
#2
xjqcf First train west on UP #1, a Z @ 8:20

Thanks to all for the running commentary on the diamonds replacement.
Johnny
UP trains are stacking up on both sides of the diamond, waiting for the green flag. Nothing on the scanner from BNSF
BNSF surf gang going to clear up at 8:00; will not get to #2 track until 3:00pm. Don't know if this means that #2 track will be out of service until that work is completed.
UP dispatcher setting up 2 westbounds on #2, then one eastbound out of global 3. The BNSF tamper if fouling the diamonds; I assume they have the key release to protect it; can't see if the UP signal is red in the early am sun
UP dispatcher moving trains; form B for the work zone voided for UP only
I just found if you click on the arrow to 'go back to photostream', your able to click through (backwards), the removal and replacement of the diamonds.

Been following myself, quit about O dark hundren, was back on about's 5am. Got pictures using the snipping tool, will post here shortly.
So, do the two roads just park trains or are they re routed for this operation?
UP dispatcher is issuing spreed restrictions for #2 track - 15 mph. Diamond to reopen at 8:00
There's westbound UP Z train holding about 12 miles to the east, and I just heard east and westbound UP trains hit detectors about 20 and 30 miles away. Looks like they are expecting at least one track to open any time (from the looks of it #2 track)
Well, I think that is enough for now.
Talk to you folks later.
Bruce
So shovel the coal, let this rattler roll.
