Just now (c. 8:30 PM Eastern) a single-unit pulling a short WB UP freight (a local?) stopped east of the diamonds, a guy got out and went to the box near the tracks, fiddled with it for a while, then got back on board, and off went the train, with bell ringing. What was that all about? /Mr Lynn

Does Trains or anyone have any information about the specs of the diamond-replace job, e.g. weight of diamonds, cost of the job, number of workers required, etc.? /Mr Lynn

Looks like the used car lot added a windmill.

I just logged in to the new camera after a period without access to the internet. Is it me or does the new camera require more processessing power to load the images? My system is using an inordinate amount of CPU and memory to load the images.

Make sure you have the latest version of Adobe Flash Player and try using a different web browser, such as Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.

Just saw a mixed freight going eastbound on UP #1 and the taller cars were rockin' and rollin'.  Not quite as bad as before the replacement of the diamonds but definitely worse than just after the replacement.

What is the truck working on,and how long is it expected to be there?

Looked like a welding/grinding gang. They made some thermite rail welds on a portion of the UP east track panel on #2  that was installed last week as part of the diamond replacement project. Why this was being done I don't know; they seem to have done the same thing in the same location in the past week; perhaps faulty welds? The finished and rolled east.

Looks like they put the insulated joint back in.

I'd suggest checking the version of Adobe Flash that you have installed. One place to do this is here: http://isflashinstalled.com/   Unfortunately, the camera subcontractor (Earthcam) uses this fussy technology.  I think the current version is 25.  HTH, Mike

Might just be a campfire

Think your right.  Thanks for the explanation from both you and Semper Vaporo.

Just heard on the scanner the UP 95.1 defect detector give an axle count of 1000.

@ XJQCF:

Is that scanner on the Internet?

How can I listen to it?

If and when I'm able to listen to railroad crews, either on a scanner or on my computer, is there something available on the Internet that would explain to novices like myself what it is that train crews are talking about?

Thanks.

I have seen residents in that area burn trash and yard debris in the back of their backyards (and at the end of the deadend street) adjacent to the ROW.  I think that is what the flame is and I think some of what looks like multiple flames is really the reflection of the firelight off the faces of people near the fire.

Might just be a campfire in the adjoining back yard.  Hard to tell.

Is the switch heater on for the BN switch?  Open flame near the switch stand. Or, as I suspect, an electrical fire?https://www.flickr.com/photos/64854874@N07/35001761746/in/dateposted-public/

another screen shot showing multiple sources of flame?

12.09 today, local took a line of boxcars in, and about 30 min. later brought either the same or more out. Also brought out a centerline full of skids. (palates)
If this is the first time around the spur, I can't say.

Here are four 'snips' I got of the first local I have seen around the spur.

just caught the BNSF local headed for it's stops north side of Rochelle. Yes, it crossed the diamonds. someone mentioned that it never does.

I've seen it cross the diamonds, then come back a while later and go up the siding alongside the UP tracks.   Has it used the switch since the diamond replacement?

Just heard on the scanner the UP 95.1 defect detector give an axle count of 1000. I wonder what the train length is. Since it was on track 1 will probably pass the diamonds within a half hour (can't imgine it would be going into Global 3)

4 engines (3 x 1 mid train) yields a car count of 244. Large blocks of those low cube sand covered hoppers and some white tank cars

Noticed some green wires where they removed the insulated joint. The insulated joint is still on the other side.

Green markers are probably to help protect the wires from the surf gang. On BNSF I heard their surf gang briefing with the maintainer where the latter promised to paint visible marks at the wires for the former. Broken wires from track work seems to be a common problem.

Makes sense ... I was surprised we did not see all the orange locate marks and flags show up before work started.

The local is back and it looks like they are going to take the gravel road.

We won't hear "Spider too slow", boy she works fast.

Somebody needs to read this about how to keep spiders off of security cameras.  Easiest thing to do is turn off the IR LEDs if they are on: https://www.vueville.com/blog/how-to-keep-spider-webs-off-your-security-camera-lens/

Are there IR LEDs on the webcam?  I doubt it; can't see anything at night except headlights.
