There's a rail gang working between Clinton and Rochelle. Not sure which end they started at. Might be associated with that.

A veritable parade of every concievable type of MOW equipment just went west on the far UP track. At least 2 dozen machines (including a couple of port-o-poties). It must of been there whole department! Anyone know what they are up to?

That is caused by a lost of data between the server and you. Somewhere along the line the last few lines of the image scan get lost and the last real line that is received is repeated to take the place of the lines that have been lost. Normally that only happens right at the camera to computer interface because the hardware has lost sync between the two, and the program processing the incomming data keeps getting the same data from the hardware buffer. Why you would see it happen in a "streaming" data from a server is rather odd, but I suppose it could happen (or at least that is what seems to me to have happened!)

Does anyone else see streaking on the bottom of the picture? No, not naked people. The bottom inch or two looks like someone put a ruler on wet paint and dragged it down. It varies in height and it comes and goes. It looks like this:

BNSF surf gang working on #2 track just west of the diamonds. Probably working on the 10mph slow order.
Just watched at EB UP - predominately covered hoppers with a trademark of CHS on the sides of most of them - throughout the train were groups of 8 to 10 tank cars, some of which also hat the trademark CHS on the sides of the cars. Unable to view car numbers.
Red Flag (Sign) is out ...
That one will escape me- headed out of town today for family gathering. Thanks for the heads-up, though!

cefinkjr I think the pads described in Trains would be very difficult to see in a photo unless you have extreme closeups of the diamonds.

Well, I was right on top of the diamonds when I took the photos.
DennisHeld cefinkjr There was a short piece about this on page 20 of the June 2017 Trains. It wasn't about the Rochelle diamonds of course; it described, among other things, some new polyurethane pads to go between the rail and the tie (plate?). I only noted the headline and some picture captions (just happened to have that issue lying on my desk). \ I went to Rochelee Sunday before last. Took photos of the old and new diamonds. I really didn't see any difference. I don't think it is the diamond discussed in the Trains article. I could be wrong. I have not examined my photos side by side to detect any design differences.

Electroliner 1935 Either I missed a post or there was none about what has reduced the inpact noise from the wheel impact at the diamonds. Are the new crossings a special low noise design? Are there plastic inserts or fillers? Why is the noise so much lower than it used to be?

While typing the above, UP sent a WB stack train at speed on #1 to demonstrate the improvements Electroliner saw. And then while I'm proofing this post, here's an EB BNSF stack train on their #1. All involved with the replacement can take a bow.
Now the rubber hits the road (bad pun, indeed).
Just saw a UP EB coal train on the near track clear the diamonds at 1721 CDT. It wasn't going as fast as the one I mentioned earlier, but the new diamonds did their job. It was as close to "steady as she goes" as you are going to get.
As to Electroliners questions, all I can hope for is that there will be a good article about it in an upcoming TRAINS.

A UP EB coal train just cleared the diamonds on the far track at 1305 CDT. The angle of the sun cast shadows on the cars in a way that you could tell those two diamonds were working right. Good to see.
Didn't notice that- too busy trying to get the camera icon to work, which it wouldn't (#@*&%@$).
blhanelthree engines up front, second unit is 1988, the KATY heritage unit.
Saw that.
Did you happen to notice that odd sized CN gondola? It looked to be a foot and a half or two feet taller than a regular sized gondola in front of it, and about the same amount less height than a covered hopper behind it. It had a flat bottom with no gates or a tub.
I noticed it coming even before I saw the road name. I wonder what commodity it is used for?
Just watched an EB mixed manifest go through on UP Track #1- three engines up front, second unit is 1988, the KATY heritage unit.
blhanelThanks for the heads-up, Bruce!
You're welcome, glad I could help. I like that picture.
I almost didn't make that post. I wasn't sure it warranted one. I had actually turned to do something else before I decided to post.
Report tonight from local law enforcement of a tornado blowing 65 cars of a train off the tracks south of Alliance, Nebraska...
AgentKid I think it is bye for now to the two UP Heritage units "Missouri Pacific" and "Western Pacific". They were the tail end power on a long WB intermodal train on the far track that crossed the diamonds at about 1452 CDT. Bruce

And at 1835 CDT, they were headed through Cedar Rapids- making good time! Thanks for the heads-up, Bruce!
For any who might be interested, I just completed a blog post called "Replacing the Diamonds," using a few screen shots from the Trains webcam:

It's aimed at a general audience, so apologies if you find it too elementary.

PS But feel free to let me know if you see any errors, either here, or in the Comments to the post.
Grinders at work on the diamonds. It will be interesting to see how often routine welding/grinding will be for such a new installation (a week could hardly go by without at least one or two days with this kind of maintenance)
watched a BNSF mixed and lots of covered hoppers WB. Just as the last car crossed the diamonds on track 1, a second train on track 2, hit the diamonds with feet between the head end (Norfolk Southern) and the last car of the first train. My first seeing this.
It sounds like he operated the manual release for the interlocking.
