Continued OT: Thanks.... I've learned that the "reply" and "quick reply" buttons have different results. Using "quck reply" my posts appear immediately.
Thanks.

Two units EB on BNSF with LONG unit train of high-sided gondolas barely loaded to the top sills with ??? It appears to be about the right color for iron ore pellets. Third unit on the rear. OS 1139

ALERT! Giant spider sighted at Rochelle diamonds! Call out the armed forces! Could be a threat to trains!
Haven't seen the spider, but there are workmen all over the diamonds and I hear jackhammers!

3:13 smooching on the cam, maybe a sign posted they are on candied camera????
At 5:06 it looks like it has evolved to .... "Honey, let me know when you are done watching trains and we can go .. I'll be over here laying down getting some rest."
I thought the giant spider was going to get both of them.
:)
Some nice "sweet light" out there at the moment...'bout what one would expect from a "candied" camera!
it must be spring time the weed wacker and lawn mower are workin on the green grass lol keep those oil tankers rolling
A Giant Hand just cleared the front of the camera, it used a cloth, yet nothing was destroyed!!!!
Happened abouts 11:00
Just saw it again, Hi Railer pulled up to the diamonds, UP this time. then backed away, FAST
a moment later, WB BNSF tank cars at speed.
MKT Dave A Giant Hand just cleared the front of the camera, it used a cloth, yet nothing was destroyed!!!!
Good job. Now that I know that the camera is mounted on the roof peak, I appreciate the Giant Hand even more. "You're a braver man than I, Gunga Din."
Is it my imagination or is the camera having more trouble focusing on certain things than it used to? Can this be a power problem? Failure of some component? Maybe the cleaning by the Giant Hand was an attempt to correct this.
cefinkjr does that mean the spider is gone?sure was a big ugly thing. MKT Dave A Giant Hand just cleared the front of the camera, it used a cloth, yet nothing was destroyed!!!! Good job. rdettmer: You somehow posted your line about the ugly spider within what you quoted from my post. I think I know how you did that but, really, I don't want to take credit for your post.
i really don;t know how that happened

You first hit the 'quote' button and then began to write within the 'quote' delimiters.

The pitch of that roof would make walking up to the camera relatively easy:

You're right. I hadn't noticed the roof pitch in the picture posted earlier by tree68:
I was too focused on the condition of the UP tracks in the left foreground. Scary.
Breezy today - you can hear it!
BaltACD Breezy today - you can hear it!
I can't. Thuderstorms here are too loud.

You probably have to have a climbing permit to get up there or something...

Just watch the trees swaying as well as the cable to the signal bungalow moving back and forth.
The "old wive's tale" is that you 'have to destroy a spider's web 3 times before it will move on' ... of course that doesn't preclude another spider from taking up residence in the same spot an hour later.
In reality, webs are destroyed almost daily by wind, rain, birds, etc. and the spider itself, thus the spider rebuilds it often... at least until the available food supply dwindles... which with flying insects is nearly impossible to achieve. Add to that the fact that the camera generates some heat that attracts bugs, the spider is quite content to live there until it dies of obesity.
Don't see the arachnid, but men are working on the diamonds.
Since we appear to be seeing welders working on the diamonds every 3 or 4 days with the resultant work and slow orders being in effect it breeds the question - when were the diamonds last replaced with new trackwork and when is the next replacement scheduled?
