I was just watching some movies I took of the old gal and was wondering.....
What would it take to get her running again. I understand what put her down in 2002, mostly insurance costs and it needed flue work to make it FRA complient, but it was Amtrak ceritfied and had just been rebuilt in the late 90's so it isnt in bad shape. I went to the museum this summer and gave it a walk around and it was in great shape, looked like you could put a fire in her now and off you go. The rods had grease on them to protect them and it looked like the stuffed her with the intent it COULD run again. Ive ridden and chased alot of big steam (everything from NW 1218 to the SP 4449) and the 1522 has to be one of the most handsome locomotives to grace the high iron.
Anyone wanna weigh in on this? Long live the Rock!!!
