Craig, Colorado
We will continue west along US40 until we reach Craig. Here we will photograph the old Denver & Salt Lake Depot (later a D&RGW Station).
David Moffat's Marcia Car
We also stopped by to see the Marcia Car and found the car closed & locked even though all documentation we had said it should be open for tour. This car is marked Denver, Northwestern & Pacific on on side and Denver & Salt Lake on the other. Last time we were here it was open and there wasn't a shelter over it.
Day #8
A new day and off to Walden, CO we go to track down UP Caboose #25408...
Centennial, Wyoming
UP #903221
Within the museum they had several old B&W photographs of depots; many long lost to time. I took the time to photograph as many of these photos as I could for future research needs. Outside we also find Union Pacific Caboose #903221...
Saratoga, Wyoming
We then leave Centennial, WY and head for the Snowy Range and if you are ever in this area this is a scenic drive well worth your time! Once on the other side of the range we turn north towards Saratoga, WY where we stop very briefly at the museum there to take a few shots.
Union Pacific
Part of the reason for the tough angles taking the shots of the depot is that there were tress in the way along with a couple pieces of Union Pacific equipment on two sides I had to shoot around.
Rawlins, WY
We move on as the car is once again giving us trouble, this time the A/C is starting to not work right and it's hot out so we want to get to Rawlins quickly. Once we reach Rawlins find our way to the Depot which was a small challenge.
UP #25617
Also found here at the station is Union Pacific Caboose #25617...
UP Steam
We also swing over the the west side of town to find UP#533 which was another small challenge given highway construction.
A few more shots...
Once I take a few more shots, we call it a day and head east back to Laramie for the night with a car that is like a sauna inside!!!
Day #9
Our final day of this RRAdventures... Since the A/C of the car remains questionable, we decide to reduce our itinerary so that we will get home before the heat bakes us alive. We start the morning off in Laramie and as we head to our first destination we come across a UP Caboose we didn't expect to find!!! -
Laramie, Wyoming
The town of Laramie is a special place for me as part of my family lived and worked here; including as part of the Union Pacific. So, I took a few more shots of the depot here the most places to capture it from many angles.
Union Pacific Depot
Here are a few more angles...
A few last shots of items near the station...
DTTX #732879
While taking shots of the depot a Stack Train surprised me and could only get this one shot
UP #535
Just a short walk from my Great Grandparents home in Laramie is a park that I often visited as a child; it has a STEAM ENGINE in it!!!!!!!
Buford, Wyoming
Our next stop is out in the middle of no where...
Ames Monument
Merci Train
Our next destination is Cheyenne, WY where we tracked down the Wyoming Merci Train Boxcar from World War I. Not all of these special / historical cars that we received as a Thank You from France have survived; but, I have been slowly trying the track down those that have...
UP #4004
We then head over to a nearby park where Union Pacific Big Boy #4004 rests and this beauty is so large that it was tough to get shots of her from end-to-end...
Union Pacific Big Boy
There were also several signs around her so I took shots of them as well...
Cheyenne, WY
From there we headed over to get a few shots of the Depot but schedule wise we don't have time to explore deeper.
UP #1242
Our last stop in Cheyenne, WY is at another park where Union Pacific Steam Engine #1242 rests.
STEAM
Here is a few more shots of Union Pacific #1242 as well as information about the "fence" that is also included within the display.
Loveland, CO
It's getting hot and even though the A/C is still working we decided to head for home. It was a good idea as after we got caught behind a traffic accident the A/C started to act up again. We reach Loveland by lunch and we stop for a quick shot of the C&S Depot but decide to not track down the GW Depot.
Well, after having a nice lunch and the A/C still acting up we head onto home and bypass all our other planned stops.
Well, with 3,000+ views I hope that means folks have enjoyed this RRAdventures Trip Report...
I have started up another trip from 2008 tonight as well and if folks would like, I can also report on some of my older trips at the same time I work my way into 2009, 2010, 2011, ...
