This message goes out to all those railroaders and rail enthusiasts! Be very careful because of the recent bad weather we're having from the midwest to the northeast. There's ALOT of snow and ice on the ground, which will make stepping anywhere a danger. It's bad enough working in an environment like the railroad, with all of its acute dangers about. It's even more dangerous when
you factor in the addition of snow and ice into it! Even before I started working in
the railroad, just from watching trains going by in the snow, I realized that snow
actually muffles the sounds that a train will normally make. Even a charging diesel engine's roar can be quieted by a heavy falling snow. Not to mention that
electrics are already quieter to begin with. A heavy snow packed around the rails, REALLY muffles the sound of an approaching train. I just wanted to send you all this public service announcement to be EXTRA CAREFUL and EXTRA SAFE in the performance of your duties while on the job and off. For those(like
me), who love the beauty of railroads in the winter, PLEASE WATCH YOUR BACKS and LOOK OUT FOR EACH OTHER IN YOUR GROUP(S)!! BLESSINGS TO ALL OF YOU OUT THERE IN RAILROAD COUNTRY!!![:)]

Glenn
A R E A L RAILROADER...A T R U E AMERICAN!!!
