WOW.  I wasn't too impressed with all that black sticky exhaust, but holy cow!  Look at that scenery!  Just stunning.  I wish I were standing on that same rock with Erik watching that winding route.

Great shot!

A mile from the tracks, but I still hear the whistle! Cleveland, Tennessee

Now I have only seena few locomotives give out a lot of smoke, But have not yet seen one of those SD90s do that. Eric you have my vote. I liked how the train winds it's way around the corners. Mike's is okay but the sun was on the wrong side. But he did get a difficult shot in with not to much cluter. I still enjoyed that one.

Can I vote for both?...Ah rats, didn't think so.Mike has the C&NW heritage unit leading two SD40-2s on a manifest freight framed by a signal bridge.Eric has a distant shot of a UP unit grain train behind three SD 90/43 MACs. The train is winding around an S curve under hazy skies. After much head scratching,I voted Mike's shot. The heritage unit won me over.My vote may have been different had Erik's photo been taken on a sunny day.

I do object to using the term 'psuedo-steam locomotive'.  To me the only locomotive to come close and be honored as a steamer class, was the PA.  I guess that is just my generation.

Yeah, I suppose using the term 'steam locomotive' to describe a unit with a bad injector is almost sacreligeous.

Anyone who can get a shot from the wrong side of the sun and make it look good makes it a winner in my book.

As for the other shot--All the smoke means it's broke!!!

The Rochelle shot got my vote.......

Can I vote for neither of them? Generally, I enjoy the submissions. But I was disappointed in both of these. Not that they're bad photos. They're ok.
It seems to me that one is a picture or rocks with a train in it. The other is a picture of everything but rocks. With a train in it.
The rocky one had toooo much yellow and little contrast. The Rochelle shot had nothing but contrast. With a train in it. I voted for the Rochelle shot.
The rocky shot would have been much better with a set of Santa Fe Warbonnet locos in the lead to add a bunch of color. Or even some BN in Cascade green. Not that the photographer has any choice in the matter.

Mike: Two things made your shot not as hot--1]Clutter of poles and 2]Sun at a bad angle, thus for shadows.

Erik: One thing made your shot my pic--The train hugging the scenery and snaking around the boulders.

My choice: Erik.

I'll have to goo with Mike this week. Nice to see RR Equipment as well as Locomotives. Clutter....Don't think so. What would you expect to see in this situation?

I'd've like to've seen that C&NW Heritage Evening/Night shot shot submitted. That was AWESOME... A WINNER for sure.

To bad you guys aren't around some steam action Sigh [sigh] dadh
