MKTT

I have been seeing UP (including ex-MP) covered hoppers that have recently had their reporting marks changed to MKTT, but have retained their numbers. Anyone know what is going on?

My old line was that since the MKT was the Katy, these MKTT cars must have belonged to the K-K-K-Katy.

This isn't exactly a recent thing, Eric, unless I've really missed something.  A lot of UP and MP covered hoppers were transferred (leased?) to MKT in the days just before the 1988 merger of MKT into MP.  Historically, the MKTT reporting marks signified the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad Company of Texas.
