Train Spotters Journal: share your finds!
Posted by emmar on Monday, March 19, 2007 10:39 PM

I was thinking it would be great to have a thread for everyone to post their pictures and tell their stories of trainwatching on. That way everyone can see them and know what all their fellow railfans are up to.  It might even be fun to tray and track certain railcars or locomotives as they travel around the country. With all of the railfans on here we should have a pretty good network for keeping tabs on trains. Hope this catches on.

One of my fond stories deals with the Southern Pacific.  They (Southern Pacific) had a helper district that ran from Bakersfield, CA to Sylmar (Los Angeles area), CA.  On one lumber train that came down from the Portland, Oregon area was so heavy that SP had 8 units on the point and it had a 9 unit set of helpers.

It was fun to watch because this was one of 4 trains that passed by within a one hour time frame.  One other train had a 4 unit set of helpers that also got cut out in Sylmar.
