Former PA Congressman Bud Shuster responds tothe Pittsburgh Tribune Review series on rail safety:
"Not many people realize that the nation's privately owned freight railroads are required by law to carry hazardous materials. Railroads would rather not carry hazardous material but railroads -- unlike other transportation businesses -- cannot refuse to ship even the most dangerous chemicals.
"They would if they could."

Nice to see a media outlet presenting both sides of a story for a change.
Especially one that also employs a "writer" who's done his best to scare the public with far-out hypothetical situations. Makes me wonder if there was some "outside pressure' applied to get some balance in this hot-button issue. Notice the rebuttal is coming from a former state legislator, and not the newspaper's editorial board.
Thanks for calling our attention to this.
